Please_Do_Not,

A flavored oxygen multi-tank and gas mask. Inhale this shit that Xzhibit and a mechanic put in your car!

Please_Do_Not,

Lol, like the 60s counterculture movement (primarily boomers since Xers weren’t even born til '65) never happened. You had real communes forming in major cities and an organized rejection of work and capitalism that Gen Xers never even came close to putting together. Show me one GenX movement that truly threatened capitalism the way that Haight-Ashbury did in the 60s.

Instead, GenX allowed capitalism to subsume anticapitalism itself. Wannabe hippies bought their tie-dye from all the old spots, bought their folk and psych music from the old labels, and made the movement into an aesthetic that the old guard profited from. Don’t “greatest generation” that BS.

And obviously don’t idolize boomers either. Not like their efforts or outlook were perfect or they didn’t fuel the downfall of anticapitalism either, but you just can’t say that X did anything more significant or novel than the cultural revolution of the 60s.

Please_Do_Not,

Thank you! I should have known this from all the puns watching Comedy Bang Bang…

Please_Do_Not,

Tom Morello came on stage to play this on guitar with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Chicago like 15 years ago, and it was one of the most amazing song performances I’ve seen live. Eddie Vedder sang with them too, quite a lineup.

Please_Do_Not,

Moore’s point is that we shouldn’t let the inability to eliminate that “what if,” which was specifically designed to be non-disprovable, actually affect ontology. That problems and questions created by philosophers basically just to stump philosophical methods should be all but ignored since, by design, there clearly can’t be an answer except that one thing is by far most likely, and the other thing cannot matter because we can’t prove or act upon it or treat it as anything other than a manufactured source of doubt/skepticism.

Please_Do_Not,

Hard disagree that earbuds negate codec importance. I love open-back over-ears, but one of my best pairs of headphones are Moondrop IEMs, and I can hear differences in audio quality more noticeably on them than a lot of speakers. I very often plug them into a Bluetooth receiver for semi-wireless convenience, and I can absolutely hear the difference between LDAC and SBC.

However, yeah definitely agreed that $150 is fair for what’s being offered here. Limited codec support is common (if unfortunate) enough in similarly priced gear without the other benefits these bring, so I’d say it’s fair enough unless the drivers themselves are bad.

[OC] Shipwreck of Hephaestus (lemmy.world)

We were traveling through Malta in 2018 when I came across this. According to the locals it had crashed up on shore about a month prior. They didn’t know what to do so they tied it off until they could come up with a solution. My personal favorite of the photos I took. The two guys below were exploring the ship. Thought it...

Please_Do_Not,

Apparently now you’d have to go to Gozo (with dive gear…) to get a shot like this!

“It’s just G now, Jack. I sold the E to Samsung. They’re Samesung now”

Please_Do_Not,

Yeah but at least you know what to say when they ask what you’re doing.

Whatever I want to do, gosh!

“Today, we fight for our home!”

“Aye, for Gor 💀!”

Such a great work album. Why Hip Hop Sucks is an all time goat instrumental

Mission success, Deapacito 2 discovered and brought back from space.

Please_Do_Not,

I personally like having purpose-specific machines. I don’t want to associate my mobile phone with work and I don’t want it going off with every work email I get. I also want to be able to work faster than I would with a tiny display and no real keyboard.

At the same time, I want to use my work machines as little as possible, because that means I am working as little as possible lol. I find that physical separation of professional and personal equipment, beyond aiding workflow and efficiency, is psychologically helpful for me destressing when I’m not working.

Plus there are so many things that, sure, a phone can do, but a larger device is just so much better at. Writing anything over 200 characters, watching videos (particularly watching videos, erm, one-handed…), reading and writing anything complex, running multiple programs/tabs, accessing complex sites and apps, and a whole lot more.

Do I use full-sized devices much less because of my phone? For sure. Could I ever imagine going phone-only? Not a chance.

Please_Do_Not,

Is there a quick explanation of what each section is for?

Your only option is insurance. You’re not gonna find an all-steel pair (would be terribly uncomfortable) with somehow unscratchable lenses, and short of that, how could any pair be bifl.

Honestly, if they have flexible or generally solid hinges, that’s the most you can do to avoid the most common point of failure in cheap glasses, and beyond that, their longevity depends on use much more than build quality.

As for sustainability, there are a lot of cheap and nice brands using recycled materials or bamboo. But the best thing you can do is treat a pair well so you can go longer before replacing them.

Please_Do_Not,

Quick question first, how would you describe your body type? And how do you like your suits cut? I think those affect what you want to be wearing when the jacket comes off, with great options for all types and preferences.

Please_Do_Not, (edited )

You’re definitely within the range for a tightly/well-tailored shirt as is then. In my opinion, if you can pull it off, a well tailored and flattering white shirt (plus dark suspenders), it’s a better flex and look than a waistcoat for under a suit jacket.

Making a classic white shirt look perfect is harder than a waistcoat, and in men’s style, I think doing something classic uniquely well is better than doing something that is a little unique normally well. Solid white with a bit of texture, fit perfectly with pants that do the same, there’s a reason it’s such a classic, with the ability to add a twist between the material and your suspenders. And then because it’s such a classic, it’s that much more impressive if you can make it your own and do it to its best degree.

Last benefit is you can guarantee it’ll be timeless. You’ll wanna look at these photos forever, and if certain looks or patterns go out of style, you can guarantee that a solid shirt that fits perfectly never will.

Why do they still dye the rivers green for St. Patricks Day? It's not a good look for downtown Chicago. (kbin.run)

I just think the novelty of these type of displays was up in the 90s, It's time for an upgrayedd. I propose leprechauns flying up and down the river wearing water jet packs, shooting people with their Chicago-style hot dog cannons would be more with the times. What's your idea?

Please_Do_Not,

Lol sounds like a you problem. It’s all biodegradable and good fun. It actually does look cool. Long time Chicagoans and new visitors still like it. Sorry you don’t.

Please_Do_Not,

Anything is toxic when concentrated enough. Fish food kills fish at high volumes; fish kill humans at high volumes.

What’s crazy is there are really good ways to dilute things–namely using a high volume of water…

Please_Do_Not,

Not strictly negative or positive, they are just very sensitive to it. Like they’d be able to tell immediately if it happened.

They are just very in tune with things like an asteroid impact with the energy of several million nuclear warheads.

Please_Do_Not,

Ah yeah, that’s my one issue with it as well, but I’ve started putting all tools I need for a project away from the board in a big crate/box/wagon, and then wherever I’m working, I put them back in the box as I finish. I find that I move them back to the garage more consistently when they are all in a single thing, and then eventually get them back on the board
