Showroom7561,

I want to see the video. Sounds like a great idea.

Showroom7561,

I guess just bury me in a ditch, or just leave me there if burying is too expensive. 😮‍💨

Showroom7561,

The Matrix had something similar. “It’s got everything the body needs.” 😬

Showroom7561,

Tesla offers manual door releases for situations with depleted power, but Janel opted to wait, fearing potential damage to her car.

Are Teslas made from tracing paper? How would manually opening the door damage her car?

Showroom7561,

Who came up with that garbage design? LOL

Showroom7561,

Wow, that’s great to hear! I’m way north of the border (like, Canada), and even though I haven’t noticed anyone wearing these, I tend to be an early adopter of just about anything. LOL You should see the looks I had when I used “bar mits” on my bike over the winter. 😂

Showroom7561, (edited )

I did recently get a set of long sleeved shirts for riding with UPF 50 (spf ratings is for sunscreen 😉).

Even though they are a technical fabric, I do feel like I’ll need to acclimate to the heat, since even with short sleeves it can get really hot on long rides.

I haven’t looked into the hemp stuff, but I also don’t like the idea of synthetic clothing, so I may have a look at more options!

But for my face and neck, Da Brim seems to be a great option.

Edit: grammar

Showroom7561,

As with anything, I would consider it an investment to last many years. Hell, when someone finds out how much I’ve spent on panniers, a helmet visor for <$100 sounds like a steal! LOL

Showroom7561,

The problem with “other solutions” is that they aren’t designed for use on a moving bike, so they don’t have the structure to actually work well. Apparently, Da Brim works in 30mph winds.

I’m fine with paying money for something that works well, especially when comfort and safety are a priority. But I appreciate you looking at alternatives… I was looking too, and found nothing that was the same (for cycling).

Showroom7561,

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, the LBS said the middle chainring has some wear, so I’d rather just change it all up.

I’m staying with a 3x, and same gear range. Looking at a few Shimano front derailleurs, the BB will be quite a bit wider than what I have.

Maybe I can pretty-please my LBS to have a look and decide what the best swap would be. I’m also going by what they have in-stock or can get easily, so my options are further limited.

Showroom7561,

I appreciate the insight. I’m not actually having issues with the chainrings/front shifting, but I did with the cassette, which is why I replaced it. I figured I might as well replace the chainring too, since it’s over 30 years old and wouldn’t be that expensive anyway.

But I guess it’s one of those “if it ain’t broke” situations, so maybe I’ll leave it as is. 😂

Showroom7561,

Because someone paid for that click, and will spend more money because of “how many clicks” they got.

Basically, clicking on ads you aren’t interested in wastes someone’s money (and makes money for the site, depending on how the ads are bought/placed).

Showroom7561,

I don’t disagree. If I chose to do that, I’d automate it, but there’s no guarantee that they are using a paid-per-click ad.

Showroom7561, (edited )

I didn’t click on the link, but there was a mini-documentary about a guy who, I believe, went across the US on an e-scooter.

It’s not as cut and dry as someone doing that on a bicycle. They need a team of people trailing them in a van, usually with many e-scooters that are kept charged. Definitely not self-supported, which isn’t as impressive as you want it to be. :(

Showroom7561,

And charging is still a huge PITA. Even with multiple e-scooters, I recall that charging was still taking all night, and they couldn’t just go to a café and charge up because they were getting kicked out.

I can see this being easier on an e-bike, where you can still pedal. But an e-scooter? Only for masochists! LOL

I may check out the guy in the link, though. This stuff always interests me.

Showroom7561,

This is it! Six Ninebot Max e-scooters!

Privacy services and non privacy payments options

Why most services that want to protect user privacy. Also those on privacyguides, don’t have anonymous payment methods like cryptocurrencies? I pay for a few such services like email or cloud etc. but I don’t know if it makes sense if my bank knows I’m using it anyway so they can sell that info to advertisers, gov, etc. In...

Showroom7561,

Crypto isn’t as private as you might think.

But I do agree with what you’re saying.

Using a prepaid credit card, which was paid for using cash, is probably your best bet.

Showroom7561,

Monero

I know of Monero, but haven’t used it. How are funds added to the Monero account?

Showroom7561,

That’s crazy. Don’t they want money? LOL

Showroom7561,

After you install a wallet, you need to get some Monero. There are multiple ways to acquire some coins to spend, like mining or working in exchange for Monero, but the easiest way is to use an exchange and convert your fiat money into XMR. Many exchanges, centralized and decentralized, list Monero (XMR).

This sounds crazy complex for most people.

Cash -> Prepaid credit card (all still real money) is best, with the caveat that it may not be accepted everywhere. But then again, Monero is hardly accepted anywhere.

Showroom7561,

No more complex than opening a bank account, and finding a way to get cash to put in it, whether that’s getting a job, prostitution, selling things, etc.

I don’t want to keep arguing, but I disagree. Even the most simple person in the world can open a bank account and put money in it. “Tap to pay” and e-transfers are as easy as they get, and cash withdrawal is something that anyone can do anywhere in the world.

Talking about “fiat money” and “XMR” and “coins”, isolates like 99% of the population.

Someone working at McDonalds can easily get paid and withdraw that money to use in a real store they can walk into. How does one even attempt any of that with Monero? Can you pay your mortgage or electrical bill with Monero? What about paying someone to fix drywall?

Monero may be a fine option for some, but it’s nowhere close to being a mainstream option for ordinary people.

Showroom7561,

Fair enough. I don’t know much about how money is added into Monero to say whether it can be traced or not. Cryptocurrency is pretty broad, so there may be exceptions to my original statement.

Showroom7561,

“Why do people stay in abusive marriages?”

Cost is likely 90% of the reason. Make divorce free with nobody having to give up anything they own, and without any other support payment, and I guarantee the rates would skyrocket to at least 75% of all married couples. LOL
