@SimonSays@mstdn.games

I'm a console gamer, predominantly on Switch.

I post my latest physical Switch purchases a lot.

Will also talk about what I'm currently playing too. Let's chat!

Life has gotten in the way hard this month meaning I haven't played any games for over a week. My Persona 5 progress has sadly ground to a halt, as I just have no time to play it.

Hopefully I'll be able to get back to it soon as I was really starting to get into it after completing the first Palace.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive A 4 day work week is hopefully the future we can all embrace.

3:45 start times are nuts! You have my sympathy. I think I probably could have played something this past week if I weren't so determined to just play Persona. Can't really play that game in 10-15 minute chunks.

Steel thy shovel for my latest Switch purchase. Have had it digital for quite a while but wanted to add it to the ever growing physical collection I have.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive Did you end up getting it last year in the end then? (I'm presuming you did). It's 100% a must have for retro game fans, it nails everything perfectly.

The fact that the physical version includes the extras they did as well like Plague of Shadows, Shadows of Torment, King of Cards, and Showdown is just the icing on the cake.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive Wii U was such a lovely console and a shame more Devs didn't take advantage of its unique setup.

I've still got mine ready to go and bust out the occasional Nintendo Land session with the family.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive NES Remix (both of them) were so good! I could've sworn it did get a physical release here but just did a search and looks like it was only the Ultimate version on 3DS. That is a shame!

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@pat @OutofPrintArchive Great box art! I thought for sure a SNES Remix would be next up and then it never happened 😒

@OutofPrintArchive I've always wondered how Conker would have turned out if they stuck with what they were doing on Twelve Tales.

What games from your backlog do you hope to try out this year?

I’ll go first: (it’s long)

Undertale
Papers, Please
Backfirewall_
Bear & Breakfast
Beyond Two Souls
The Blackwell Legacy (full series)
Death Stranding
Dishonored
Minute of Islands
Pony Island
Ring of Pain
Road 96
Sable
Smushi Come Home
Tails of Iron
Thymesia
TABS
Unpacking
The Walking Dead (full series)

If I finish 5-7 of these I’ll be happy :) I’ll likely β€˜start’ every one of them, plus some. πŸ˜†

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@britt Unpacking is a lovely little game, I think you'll enjoy that one!

I'm hoping to finish Persona 5 (just started it), and then look into:
Xenoblade Chronicles series
Yakuza/Like A Dragon series
Octopath Traveler II
Star Ocean Second Story R

It didn't take long for my first games of 2024 to arrive (though they were technically shipped last year). Never played Gargoyles on the Mega Drive/Genesis, and had to get Persona 3 Portable to help complete the Persona Switch collection I've been gathering.

Monty Mole Collection on Switch! I can't believe this is coming out and what a bargain (will be Β£6.99) when it releases on the 8th Jan in the UK.

If you're in the US it's apparently already out.

Forgot to post the games I received for Christmas so putting them up before the year is over. Lord knows when I'll have time to start these now that I'm fully entrenched in Persona 5. One day!

In-between playing Persona 5, I've been giving Kaze & The Wild Masks a go. Reviews said it's similar to the Donkey Kong Country series and they weren't wrong! It handles really well, has a gorgeous art style, and some lovely music to go with it.

If you've been wanting to play another DKC platformer, then definitely give this one a shot. It's 75% off on Steam right now, and you can buy it physically too (like I have on Switch).

Another snow level in Kaze. The main character is in the centre of the screen standing on a snowy platform. To the left in the background is a cave, and on the right is another platform that has some purple jewels on top.

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line is just Β£20 on Amazon UK at the moment.
This comes to €27 with shipping to the EU.

It does say that it'll be dispatched within 3-7 months, but that just means that when they get stock in, it'll change to a new date. Likely within a couple of weeks.

@OutofPrintArchive Another day, another time you make me spend money unexpectedly πŸ˜…

SimonSays, to Persona5
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

Got to play some more Persona 5 tonight. I'm about 5 hours in and the story is really picking up, and the characters are very well written so far too.

It does feel like I've spent the majority of the past 5 hours just listening to everyone talk to each other, and not really playing the game in any meaningful way. I'm hoping that will change so I can engage with it more, but even if it doesn't I'm still having fun.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@COMPU73E @hk That makes sense. There's definitely a lot of exposition happening so far, not only with the tutorials but with setting up why I'm going after Kamoshida as well.

I think I'm very close to doing the first dungeon given what has just happened so guessing it will then open up more from there?

@OutofPrintArchive Really hope this comes to the NSO app at some point.

OutofPrintArchive, to random
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

Still have the N64 on my mind.
I ordered "sharpshooter" replacement sticks for my original controllers.

In the meantime I went back to Wave Race 64 on NSO with a new Switch N64 controller.

I forgot just how much slower the PAL version truly was... :blobcatscared:
I gotten so used to the Japanese version ever since getting a copy in 2006.

Little tip:
The Japanese NSO app has the Shindou version, which means that it supports the rumble pack. 😊
That one never came out in the west.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive I only play the US versions on the app because those old PAL ones were so much slower (and some with those ridiculous borders).

I really wish Nintendo would do another Wave Race game. Blue Storm didn't have the magic that 64 did.

Trying to find some articles to post with a winter/Christmas theme.

Surprisingly, this is a lot harder that I thought...

Besides the obvious picks like snowboard games, I can think of games like Diddy Kong Racing with it's incredible snow track, Christmas NiGHTS, Die Hard Trilogy, Gremlins and such, but not much else.

So if you can think of a good one, let me know and I'll try to hunt down the articles. πŸ˜‰

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive Was going to suggest Diddy Kong Racing. N64 Magazine Issue 10 was their Christmas one that year I believe and really got childhood me in the festive spirit reading that issue every day.
