@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games

Hi there, my name is Andy, I'm from Belgium.
I spend most of my free time digitising and restoring classic video game magazines, mostly from the UK.
I've been doing this for nearly 20 years now and I'm here to share my passion for these magazines with others.
I love to read and talk about gaming memories from years gone by.

My main hobbies are gaming, both modern and retro gaming, as well as Japanese, South Korean and classic Hong Kong cinema.

@SimonSays
Yeah, it's a rare thing sadly.
Single company magazines could do it a bit more easily, like N64 Magazine and Official Sega Saturn Magazine come to mind.
But then so was MAXIMUM.

A 9 page spread on Kabuki Clash?
Sure, no problem!

18 pages on Soul Edge?
Just give me a minute!

40 pages on Tekken 2, you say?
Well here you go!

The brand new rescan for N64 Magazine 4 - July 1997 (UK) has just been added to the preliminary magazine catalogue.

As always, this version has not gone through the full restoration process, so it will look rougher compared to the old, fully edited one.
But with this rescan, the colour values and shadow detail, as well as overall fine detail is improved quite a bit.

Enjoy! ๐Ÿ˜š

I was talking to a friend today about the whole Xbox mess since his main system is a Series X and most of his modern catalogue is on there.

He mentioned how he felt let down by the PS4 back then, which is something we share. Although now that I've come back to it, I'm amazed at how extensive and diverse its library is these days.

He mentioned he loved Super Stardust though, so I decided to play it again, and man, is it still as much fun as all those years ago when I got it on PS3. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Kickstarted my collection with some cheap games from CeX โ€” average price, ยฃ2!

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@matt thatโ€™s an amazing price for any of those!
Split/Second alone is brilliant!
Keep a lookout for Binary Domain, Metal Gear Rising and the three MotorStorm games.
Oh, and Ridge Racer 7 of course.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@matt oh that reminds me!
Get Batman Arkham Origins as well. That one is quite underrated and never got ported to modern systems.
Iโ€™ll be looking to add more PS3 games to my collection this summer.

Iโ€™ve got quite a bit of already but Iโ€™ve been making a list of games that I want to add. ๐Ÿ˜

@matt
Oh and if youโ€™re looking for some great retro games, thereโ€™s quite a bit of PSone games on the PSN store.
A ton of them actually if youโ€™re willing to create a Japanese account and buy point cards through play-Asia for instance.

@JTO_is_Typing @matt
As far as Iโ€™m aware, they are universal and coupled to your psn account.
I actually bought a couple to buy digital PS2 games on the US PS3 shop as several games never came out in Europe. Grandia 3 for example.
This was like 2 months ago.

Not a patch on some of the amazing shots I'm seeing, but as I'm laid up with Covid this is the best shot I've managed of the #AuroraAustralis looking out onto the street from my front porch tonight.

Just insane colours. (3 second exposure, handheld on iPhone 13 mini.)

From one sick person to another, I hope you feel better soon.

And wow, is that a gorgeous capture!

And finally, just for kicks, an article called: The Games Forum: Dreamcast vs PlayStation 2.
Taken from GamesMaster 80 - April 1999 (UK)

And yet, it does get just as bad as you'd imagine it would. The more things change... ๐Ÿ˜‚

It was such a revelation at the time.
I still remember my import shop getting the Japanese version in quickly after release and all of us being in awe of the attention to detail and overall cinematography.
It was on a whole other level.

This is yet another insanely packed issue.
From the 132 pages in total, I have over 60 of them that I'd like to post! ๐Ÿ˜…
So I'll try to pick some great stuff and save the rest for another day.

First up is the preview for Final Fantasy 8 on PSone from GamesMaster 80 - April 1999 (UK)

@chloetse

Final Fantasy 7 was my first one if we don't count Mystic Quest on Super Nintendo.
But somehow I couldn't get into 8.
A friend had it and I tried playing it there, but it just wasn't my thing at the time.
The setting and characters really turned me off.

I had gotten really into importing Japanese Saturn games, so I played a ton of great RPGs like Langrisser, Grandia, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force, etc.
And was about import Xenogears, Lunar and Star Ocean 2 on PSone.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@chloetse

I love FF9, but I didn't get too far into it as there were just so many games to keep up with at that point.
And yet again, I felt the same when FFX came out.
It just didn't click with me.

I do want to go back to that one, one day though.
It's a bit sad as I feel that modern FF games just don't seem to be made for me.

Although I'm really looking forward to play 7 Remake and Rebirth once I finally get a PS5.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@Dr_Ubertrout
I have it on Switch myself, but I have to be honest. It's quite low on my priority list when I look at all the other RPGs I haven't started yet...
