Just in case this isn’t a joke, then this is probably a country difference. In America, “entree” is synonymous with “main course”. I know, I know. That’s not what entree means. But the fact remains.

Little bit too coherent. And he would never second guess a decision he claims he made.

Maybe trail off in the middle of a sentence, and then mutter something about the liberals making Twitter delete it? Because everyone is in awe of how much sense he makes, and how right he is all the time.

I'm a beginner and want to crochet a cardigan - stumped on what yarn to use and the expenses that come with it

Hi there! I hope it’s ok to ask this here. I’ve been wanting to crochet an almost floor length cardigan, so I would need a lot of yarn. The pattern said they used a Level 4/Worsted weight yarn and had a gauge of 8 stitches and 6 rows on 4"x4". Now, I can’t really find out what equals as worsted weight yarn here in Europe,...

Google tells me that “#4 Worsted” yarn weight in America equals “Aran” weight in the UK and Europe. Is that helpful?

Also, cotton feels really nice, but it’s not going to have the same kind of drape that wool or even acrylic might have, or what I would want in a cardigan. (But you’re not me, so…) I’ve had good luck with superwash wool from Knitpicks. I’ve made a cardigan and a sweater with it. I spent about $100 US on a booty length cardigan amount of yarn (knit, not crochet, if it matters), so your price quote for floor length seems about comparable.

If you’re in the UK, knitpicks.com will ship to you. Doesn’t look like they go to Europe though. :(

I hope any of that helps some. Good luck on your cardigan adventure!

That’s the prequel movie. The one where you see the beginnings of, uh, head dictator guy who starts the hunger games. (I didn’t watch it.)

I don’t fully understand what’s happening here, but they nailed the expression in that last drawing.

The Louisiana Town Where a Traffic Stop Can Lead to One Charge After Another (www.propublica.org)

The city of Gretna, Louisiana, in the shadow of New Orleans, brings in more money through fines and related fees than some larger cities in the state. An investigation by WVUE-TV and ProPublica shows that much of that money comes from drivers who rack up multiple violations and hefty fines....

It sounds like it might be another form of poor tax.

Your license/inspection is expired (possibly because you either couldn’t afford to renew it, or couldn’t take the day off to renew it) = given a fine.

Misses a payment, because they already couldn’t afford the fine = given another fine and a court date.

Have to show up in court, but can’t, again for the same reason you never renewed your license or paid the fine = given yet another fine.

It just seems like it is intended to snowball due to greed. But maybe I’m wrong and just excessively jaded and cynical.

I agree. I knew the image in the thumbnail wasn’t a Commodore 64, because it had an @ symbol above the 2. Nope! Shoulda been quotation marks there (then).

But when I click on the article, I think that first picture is right. At least, it looks like what I remember.

Maybe they choose the nicer groceries because eating is the only thing they have left in their life to look forward to? Since having children, home ownership, and retirement are all off the table in terms of affordability? Idk, just spitballin.

The article doesn’t say “bomb jolt” it says “bump, jolt.” In case no one actually reads the article.

UAW president Shawn Fain on labor's comeback: "This is what happens when workers get power", says 'billionaires should not exist' (www.cbsnews.com)

“I don’t think billionaires should exist,” he said. “No one needs that much money. I think it’s inhumane. Pick any city, walk around, you know, you see people starving, people without basic necessities. There’s no excuse for that. And it’s not because people are lazy or don’t want to work. I’m not the other commenter, but I’ve had a Discover card for over a decade, and there have only been 2 places I’ve ever wanted to buy something that didn’t take Discover. One was an obscure website and the other was a small town antique store.

So to answer your question, I do have some other credit card options, but it’s mostly for cash back reasons (I can use the best card for the category each month).

I’m an American, 40 years old. Not only have I never used a fountain pen, I don’t think I’ve ever even seen one used in person. School was all #2 pencils, mechanical pencils, and then ballpoint pens, as I progressed through the years.

Counting calories. I used MyFitnessPal, but I’m sure there are other apps.

Figure out how many calories you need daily to maintain your current weight, depending on age/gender/height, and then subtract about 500 calories from that. This also depends on your stats; you don’t want to go below your minimum daily calories. You’ll be hungry and dizzy all the time, and your body will try to store extra fat because it thinks you’re starving.

You can eat whatever you want, as long as you stay under your daily calorie number. You might not be healthy (depending on your food choices), but you will lose weight.

Good luck!

My boyfriend is getting more and more frequent panic attacks. He’s at the end of his rope. I’m trying to get him therapy, but it took almost a year to convince him to let me sign him up for some. Today they contacted him to schedule an appointment…for a month from now. And he panicked about it so badly that he started sobbing at the end of his workday (while still at work).

He can’t afford therapy, so I offered to pay. Which makes him feel guilty. His constant anxiety is keeping him from getting help for his constant anxiety. It’s only going to get worse. And there’s nothing I can do about it.

I just realized I didn’t directly answer your question: terrible.

I just finished Scales of Justice, book in the Inspector Alleyn series by Ngaio Marsh, and I think I need a break from it for a bit. They’re nice little cozy mysteries, and I’ll go back to them, but I need a change of mood and scenery.

My next planned book is a reread of the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan starting with The Eye of The World. I read the first 6(?) or so of this series about 20 years ago when it was still unfinished. Now that there’s an ending, I’m going to start over and then finish the series.

I have a friend who moved to the US from India. He says when he first got here he was frequently bumping into people in hallways and sidewalks, because his instinct was to move to the left, and as he eventually figured out, the US instinct was to move to the right.

The only reason we could come up with was driving sides and the India/British left side vs. US right side. Because he wasn’t constantly bumping into people in India, lol.

Nance’s prior arrest records indicated that he was previously arrested for aggravated discharge of a weapon involving a woman.

It needs to be specified if you discharge your weapon and a woman is involved? Because that’s…a different charge than if a man is involved? What if it’s a woman discharging the weapon? Still phrased like this? What a weird thing to write.

TheFlopster,
@TheFlopster@lemmy.world avatar

Why not just end the sentence with the word “weapon”? That’s the important part.
