Porsche’s first hybrid 911 ‘deeply’ integrates CarPlay, but not the next-gen kind https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/28/24166210/porsche-911-carrera-gts-hybrid-apple-carplay

Tommy,

@verge still a hybrid? Hard pass.

Woo! Just got tickets for https://macbethwestend.co.uk/ with David Tennant and Cush Jumbo!

Reasonably priced tickets still available (albeit some behind pillars).

I went to the train station on Saturday. Two ticket windows open and some bored looking staff sitting there waiting. Great, there's no queue, I thought. Can I buy 3 return tickets to Guildford please. The person pointed at the sign "no ticket sales from the counter at weekends.tickets must be purchased from the ticket machine". I refrained from giving them some helpful career advice which entered my mind at that moment.

Tommy,
@Tommy@mastodon.social avatar

@simon presumably you also paid an exorbitant amount for the ticket too, to really round out the terrible experience of travelling by rail in the UK.

Workbench 46 is out! 🛠️

https://flathub.org/apps/re.sonny.Workbench

Actually it was a couple of hours ago before GNOME 46 but I didn't want to steal the show 😎

Here are the highlights 💡

Inline diagnostics for :rust: and :python:

New Library demos: 📚

"Snapshot" to demonstrate one of GTK4 coolest feature.

"Dialog" and "Message Dialogs" to demonstrate libadwaita 1.5 new responsive dialogs.

26 demos ported to Python
5 demos ported to Vala

@sonny I love Workbench and I realise I’m tempting feature creep, but Gnome is crying out for a Libadwaita IDE. I would love to use it for web development, but without broader language support and a file browser pane — it’s quite tricky.

Thanks for all your work, it’s fantastic!

dug my kindle out and I forgot how tiny the damn thing is.

apparently someone has made open source firmware for the inkplate to turn it into an epub reader, which I am very interested in trying. I've got the 10" which is a very nice size for reading technical books, app notes, and datasheets.

ideally I'd get something like a remarkable 2 but it's a lot of money to drop on an e-reader.

Tommy,
@Tommy@mastodon.social avatar

@gsuberland ooo nice. Is there a repo kicking around?

The garbled HTML on this is quite something!

http://motoring.dvla.gov.uk (needs to be the http: version.)

Tommy,

@Edent unusual for GDS - they’re usually quite good

Tommy,

@Edent Curious - the link back to the ‘motoring homepage’ bounces to a gov.uk page

My beloved Mini EV has been at the body shop for two months since someone smashed into it, requiring repair. The car is clearly in pieces while it's being fixed up. But some of its brain is still alive. Last year, I set up a free and simple "mileage and charge" dashboard using Axiom. The car is still checking in periodically. I've been sadly watching the battery dwindle slowly downward all that while. I hope they charge it back up before they give it back! 😂

I love the look of this 'Clicks' physical keyboard for iPhones! While it makes the phone ludicrously long, I love the whole concept.

Should I move to Docker?

I’m a retired Unix admin. It was my job from the early '90s until the mid '10s. I’ve kept somewhat current ever since by running various machines at home. So far I’ve managed to avoid using Docker at home even though I have a decent understanding of how it works - I stopped being a sysadmin in the mid '10s, I still worked...
