#NYC's corrupt mayor (redundant phrase) had the #NYPD attack/assault Columbia students protesting #Gaza genocide after a private call with several pro-#Israel billionaires who promised political donations for his reelection campaign. Such a succinct example of how the sequestration of capital, political power, and violence within a tiny elite is the norm in this country.

Learned recently that up until the civil war, the most prevalent form of #Islam practiced in #Somalia & Somali-majority regions was a very localized/culturally embedded form of #Sufism. BATTLE FOR THE HORN:
Just here to provide some updates on the geopolitical skirmishing that has involved a number of major players in a race for control and influence of Somalia's coastal frontiers off the Gulf of Aden...which borders the Red Sea and the lucrative Bab El Mandeb strait. That strait has a huge impact on global oil shipments, and has been explored as a possible Israel weapons delivery portal.

@ZekuZelalem Thank you for this thread. I'm Somali-American and was visiting family in Mogadishu when the MoU was announced. People were very upset, using rhetoric like "invasion" to describe the deal.

Anyway, one question I have as an observer is where is Djibouti in all of this? Seems like Ethiopia could have gotten gulf access with none of the geopolitical risk by making a deal with them. (Maybe Somaliland recognition seemed like an easy trade relatively speaking.)

@ZekuZelalem Thanks for the further explanation! Hoping things calm down. Speaking for myself, there's so much to be gained from collaboration rather than conflict in the Horn and this episode seems like such a self-inflicted mess

I really dislike that I have become such a fanboi of @ia, because it is one of the top-2 things keeping me from switching back to Android (along with Watch). But otherwise, it’s such a delightful, thoughtful focus on Doing Things Simply And Well. Really look forward to experimenting with these Shortcut integrations.
