I got curious and did some research. What are the top 10 subgenres in Heavy Metal?

The heavy metal genre contains numerous subgenres, each offering a unique sound and style. Some of the top subgenres include thrash metal, death metal, black metal, power metal, and more. Additionally, deathcore and metalcore are notable subgenres that combine elements from other genres. The post explores prominent bands and their respective subgenres, with the author expressing a…

To add to the subgenre of metalcore, after seeing a proper metalcore show in Portland this last weekend lemme just say…

Holeee shit I see how metalcore bands roll now with the bass, the drums and sick bass drops. They drip that shit in like acid on a shroom escapade to heavyville. All while effectively being, at least the bands I saw, this esoteric mix of talents that are above and beyond that effectively are singing pop songs! My eyes are open to their modus operandi now, hot damn.

On that note, Taylor Swift should knock out a metalcore album. 🤣

I'm realizing my favorite metal bands right now are coming from these top 4 countries.

  1. Sweden (still)
  2. Germany
  3. United States
  4. Australia

With Australia being a new one, as of last year I'd maybe listened to 1-2 bands out of Australia in decades of enjoying metal. Now though, I've got a half dozen in rotation.

Germany is also sort of new to my playlist. I've always had maybe 1-2 German bands in the playlist now and again. But now I've got several that rotate regularly.

Anybody remember what these were called? They’re made of literal metal, which is strange considering they’re from the 80s era of plastic everything (like now).

So Oakland airport is renaming themselves to include "San Francisco" in the name, and... if you can figure out how to get people from one airport to the other in less than 30 minutes or so, I bet you can print money.

Those travelers showing up at the wrong airport who need to get across the bay...

@chrisjrn @danlyke even as is I stopped flying into SFO years ago and have opted for the surrounding airports. It’s often just as fast or I trip chain more activities and meetings together (ie San Jose).

So I'm describing to my 3 year old son the story of easter, or the reasoning for it. Obviously he asks, after I tell him about Jesus getting nailed to the cross and then rising, what does that have to do with colored eggs, bunnies, and all that?

3 year olds, smarter than most adults.

So I describe to him how the Christians overran European tribes and peoples, and to effectively convert people they started having their Christian ceremonies and holidays on Pagan dates to which...

adron,
@adron@metalhead.club avatar

that made a lot more sense to him then and he asked if we'll eat rabbits and candy on Easter?

I thought. Why not? Rabbit is tasty and candy is too. Let's do it!

So in celebration of Christians colonizing Europeans tribes and peoples via invasion and oppression, we're going to eat rabbits, and in celebration of Jesus rising from the grave and fancy fantasy stories, we're gonna eat candy and watch Star Wars.

Of all the bands that no longer exist, who do you miss the most? Like which bands and artists that either aren't with us anymore or just dont' write/create anymore that really just make your heart ache?

A few that immediately come to mind...

Eddie Van Halen, Children of Bodom, thus Alexi Laiho, Acid Bath, and Yves of Ypress, thus David Gold. ✊🏻😔

I still listen to each of these bands regularly.

I love a death metal band that has the sheer cojones to put a song that's over 8 minutes long as the first track of their demo and it's so good you can just ride the whole damn thing til the next track

@jake4480 @HailsandAles @wendigo @BlackenedGreen @Kitty you had me at 8 minutes long... so now giving this one a listen.

adron,
@adron@metalhead.club avatar

@jake4480 @HailsandAles I'm diggin' it so far but holy shit is it panned hard to the left. (or right, might have mixed up my ear buds)...

just checked against another album too. Y'all getting that?

adron,
@adron@metalhead.club avatar

@jake4480 @HailsandAles yeah, if I'd played it first via my standard stereo options, I might not have imemdiately noticed. But I was sitting at a coffee shop so had the ole' ear buds. With ear buds, it's super evident as one seemed like it wasn't working... took it out, took of the ear piece, remounted it to the bud speaker, placed it back in... was still real low. Thus the discovery...

Played it later @ home on stereo and it pans out better.

Thought provoking research — that are trained predominantly on English will also “think” in English. When translating German to Japanese, it’ll first get converted to something closer to English in between.

adron,
@adron@metalhead.club avatar

@kellogh I suspect just like the programming languages lean heavily on the idioms, ideals, patterns, practices, and related concepts from the English speakers who created many of them.

I would presume LLMs and other related trained data would have the same basis, and also - as we've seen many times - the same biases and presumptions we make with the errant data we routinely have to describe the world.
