Getting some pretty amazing photos with a 4 second exposure at ISO 320 from my backyard in thanks to our G5 big reds, oranges, and some greenish-blue streaks right now, at latitude 40°N 105°W - caught a helicopter, too

More color palette shots made at ISO200 - 8 second exposure @ 40°N 105°W. The naked eye only barely detects the brightness changes but the camera sees all

Verizon's Data Breach Investigations Report covers a lot of sectors of society, including . This year's reports that 98% of breaches and affecting schools was financially motivated.

What was that famous thing a bank robber once said about going where the money is? Is someone going to tell them?

Well, I'm disappointed to report that city council voted 7-1 against designation of the historic district proposal that would have highlighted a history of racial prejudice going back a century. The one thing I'm grateful for is that the councilmembers appeared moved by the history that was uncovered during the investigation into the origins of Central Park. The public comment also highlighted the deeply racist practices and effects of reknowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. Onward to the next battle for justice and equity!

Amazing @boulderreportinglab reporting. I've been supporting recognizing Boulder's first neighborhood in designating a District downtown.

In my testimony to Landmarks Board (https://youtu.be/ohm8EOPFSts?feature=shared&t=11911) (3:18:30 in), an area now occupied by Boulder's main public library was designated "Block 11" back in the 1870s when the city was just a frontier mining supply town. Blocks 11 and 12 was the only place Black or brown residents could own a home. It was later demolished, its residents displaced and poorly compensated.

This story should be told.

A week from Saturday, if you're a voter, please come meet your state assembly representative Junie Joseph.

Junie was a fantastic mentor to me as a candidate and she is one of the most effective legislators in , sponsoring 19 bills last year to promote affordable housing, renters' and workers' rights, safety for marginalized groups, and more.

This year she's a cosponsor of a bill to regulate video and audio when it's used maliciously during political campaigns.

I'm a co-host of this event, so please drop by if you're in the area!

My Mayor Pro-Tem wrote a scathing op-ed in the local paper about the Democratic Party infighting and weird targeting of candidates of color in our district with negativity and resistance to their candidacies in some important races this fall.

Boulder sometimes pretends to be progressive, but a community of this many wealthy white people can be incredibly, institutionally racist in some really insidious ways at times, and this is one of those times.

Could it have been a case of a broken clock? The New York Times is failing - it is failing its readership by behaving egregiously in-the-bag for Trump, and seeking out any petty reason to print negative stories about Biden.

    https://www.salon.com/2024/03/05/there-is-something-at-the-new-york-times/

Of course, I've been saying this since they breathlessly repeated every "but her emails" story in 2016 and other thoroughly discredited nonsense. What an embarrassment to journalism.

My activism in local politics continues apace as I am sitting in chambers to speak at the Landmarks Board in favor of the board designation of a historic district downtown, but asking the board to recognize that the district's creation came at the cost of losing Boulder's oldest Black neighborhood, dating to the 1870s.

Another banger from author A. R. Moxon (aka @JuliusGoat) on the Claudine Gay agent-provocateur action last week.

"The best candidate is a very big deal with supremacists, I’ve noticed. It’s an appeal to fairness and equality and merit from people who don’t care about fairness and equality or merit, who are in fact diametrically opposed to those principles and are working to demolish them. The supremacist best candidate is a sort of mythical beast, so the attempt to categorize it will be something similar to cryptozoology."

@AAKL @TheConversationUK I know this is a fraught topic, and out here the district and other local government entities have policies that require official accounts to allow all comments. But there is a local person, well known to folks in local circles, who comes to every public meeting of a board or agency and spends their public comment time ranting and cursing at officials and staff, as well as sending deeply offensive, aggressive, and sometimes threatening emails to lots of people who work for the city. The staffers don't deserve having to deal with this, either.

This is a weird one. Coroner Emma Hall has resigned in disgrace following disclosure of a scandal involving abuse of county-issued payment cards, sexual harassment of employees, and a weird multiple-personality thing she did where people had to call her different names based on what glasses she was wearing at the time. https://www.denver7.com/news/local-news/boulder-county-coroner-resigns-amid-internal-investigation-into-toxic-work-environment

representative Ken Buck announced that he won't run for reelection next year. That's good.

The list of republican who have announced they will run for his seat are all goddamn lunatics. That's bad.

One called the IRS, ATF, and FBI "domestic terrorists."

One describes himself as "another soldier in President Trump’s army."

One dropped his gun in a public area of the state capitol, and was reprimanded for using racial slurs during a state House debate.

One has said she wants to "protect our children from woke indoctrination."

We interrupt your social media feed to bring you this important message from a very special spokes-moose.

I may just be a talking moose, but I wanted to thank everyone who supported, donated to, and voted for the Brandt for BVSD campaign.

I know it was a long shot to run for school board, but I was deeply moved by your passion for public education.

This election is just the beginning of a movement to elect more hackers to public office. You will be hearing more about that very soon.

We are just getting started patching the bugs in our democracy.

Please do vote if you're in the US. Literally every school board/director up for us had a book burning type running, some more subtle than others.

I know it's boring off year stuff but holy shit those types can do damage en masse.

@glassbottommeg we have an honest-to-god antivaxxer, antimasking conspiracy theorist running for school board here in lovely, liberal bubble Boulder, Colorado. This is no joke. We all have to vote as if our lives depended on it, because they literally do.
