Anonymized Poster: »I'm provax, working in health care as a clinical trial coordinator and paramedic. What I see, is that contracting a VPD is still taken as "fate" or "bad luck" by many AV folks I have talked to during my work.

To participate in most clinical trials it is mandatory to be vaccinated utd, so l have to have this kind of talk fairly often. On the other hand, if they get a vaccine and experience side effects, they perceive it as something they have inflicted upon themselves.

So irrespective of how severe either is, contracting an infection is perceived as something that just happens and has to be accepted while side effects of a vaccine, however short lived those may be, are self inflicted and therefore to be avoided.

Unfortunately humans are notoriously bad at risk assessment. Something we don't do is perceived as less risky than something we actively do. It's a logical fallacy though because doing nothing is an active decision just like doing something is...«
