Well referenced article by a thinktank based in summarizing the mechanism for derived food inflation being observed in the country.

Doesn't add anything new except the fact none of the listed issues are predictions - they are observations and cited.

is here, and as in the Global North, farmers/gardeners can see it clearly, but the rest barely.

As usual, enforcing capitalists' debts over by forcing over a stricken country, while (2 years on) promised funds by international banks remain stunts.

'..why there has been a delay, Mr Ye said that the amount pledged was for reconstruction.. "..the new climate risk profile and the possibility that these areas may be flooded again,”...'

@junesim63 this article by a researcher from the University of Bath makes a similar point for , but less toned-down

The gist is, the way capitalism (finance) is structured is making sure no renewables transition occurs, despite a fall in generation costs. The solution is gov led and funded transition

The only difference is the can afford either path, but Pak can only afford green

Understanding 's electricity conundrum

"The β€˜rooftop conundrum’ is another issue, where increased tariffs have spurred demand for rooftop panels, leading to a decline in demand from the national grid.

...contribute to the β€˜capacity payment conundrum’, ..purchasing agreements obligate the gov to make payments even when plants are not generating electricity."

Brilliant article on the challenges facing transition to renewables, and why its unlikely

"while the cost of renewable power is now lower than that of fossil fuels, renewables are not a profitable business. The particularities of the .. market structure are the causal factors here... Making sure that capital gets its pound of flesh has crippled the country."

Continuing the theme - why despite hitting 's rooftop target half a decade early the Gov is being forced to somehow put brakes on the renewables transition.

" this rapid growth in rooftop solar is creating costs that have to be passed on to poorer segments of the population"

The writer pins the blame on bureaucracy simply following policy/agreements, but like Ms Amirali's articles clarifies in the previous post "the capitalists want their pound of flesh" - this cost that was previously spread among the entire nation is increasingly being left for the poorer segments to pay, the ones who can't afford solar panels themselves, doubling their energy expenses.

While defending the profit interests of the financiers, the Gov is able to deploy this very valid excuse.

@vfrmedia the new "Lahore Masterplan 2025" has provisions for only approving building permits if they have green roofs or solar installations.

has had active net-metering systems in place since 2011. Once solar efficiency hit high enough to make smaller installations worthwhile, the market exploded and the time lag for fully connected net-metered connections went from within 1 week to just over a month currently due to demand, mostly due to a shortage of smart net-meters.

SiR_GameZaloT,

@vfrmedia

You can install your system and use it as long as your application has been submitted and is in line. If its rejected (unlikely because the installers do such a good job of following codes), you get a grace period of making the necessary changes to correct the deficiencies, but there is no concept of a single outright rejection - its Gov policy to get as many panels up as possible.

    @lzg hi, perspective from

    Back in 2011,Gov decided to distribute laptops to the top performing kids in each public school. They did factor in some of the families might sell those laptops immediately, but they also provided free wifi for ALL students outside schools+unis+major transport hubs.

    10 years now, every single professional coder in the country either has a friend or themselves got into IT only because of the laptop. Some families still use their decade old laptops today.

    SiR_GameZaloT,
    @SiR_GameZaloT@paktodon.asia avatar

    @lzg the "laptop scheme" faced crazy amounts of criticism even back then. But now its mostly gone.

    It single handedly gave a growing IT sector inspite almost a total lack of the subject in public schools and colleges back then.

    And these kids have now spurred much more development in the form of IT institutes and subjects across the board, as demand for both jobs and computer literacy have increased.

    No critics of the policy now, in fact theres demand for another round lol

    You'll be less than shocked to discover that research indicates support for striking nurses & doctors in the NHS is more likely among 'nonconservative voters, individuals leaning towards left-wing politics & those with greater trust in the NHS'!

    Its likely that the Tories have calculated playing hardball on the strikes would (does) play well (better) with their supporters & is politically a low risk strategy.

    The Q. is will an election change things?

    SiR_GameZaloT,
    @SiR_GameZaloT@paktodon.asia avatar

    @ChrisMayLA6 I think hes trying to go Thatcher on the striking NHS: get workers to replace them. Except it was impossible to do as nurses and docs need years of training, you cant just replace them on a whim

    Then Conservatives found 2 ways of doing that:

    Doctors and GPs are being replaced by underqualified "Physician's Associates" across the NHS

    And just announced importing 2000 fresh junior docs from India, despite thousands already being underemployed here due to a lack of funding at trusts

    ChrisMayLA6, to Health
    @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us avatar

    Perhaps unsurprisingly, satisfaction with the NHS as measured in the British Social Attitudes survey has sunk further in 2023, with now 24% satisfied (down from 29% in 2022 & from over 50% in 2020).

    Strikes, Covid & the ongoing crisis are all likely causes... but behind that lies the Tory's wrecking of the health service.

    Nearly half of those surveyed thought taxes should be raised to tackle the funding shortage across the NHS (implicitly recognising its a funding issue).

    SiR_GameZaloT,
    @SiR_GameZaloT@paktodon.asia avatar

    @ChrisMayLA6 imagine your company officially adopts a policy of "not paying for overtime" anymore because it "cant afford to". But staff are still expected to fill those hours covering colleagues who retired/caught covid/burnt out/quit, because if they dont, people die.

    Imagine the immense pressure that puts on you, on top of all the demanding emotional work you need to put in looking after people at their most vulnerable.

    Every NHS trust is either implementing or considering a form of this.
