Okay, new iPad Pro is downloading its initial SW update. Using my iPhone for the initial setup really removes so many pain points. It is indeed very thin.

like everything with that lot, that review is all over the place.

The apps criticism, sure, that’s solid.

The criticism of Shortcuts is hilarious, like that’s the point of Shortcuts: you can’t do anything beyond what an app dev chooses to allow you to and Apple is pure shit at supporting stuff like that. There’s not a single app or OS team at Apple that has decent shortcuts support beyond a small set of canned actions.

And if you think Apple will ever prioritize shortcuts, shake your head. If that team were kidnapped by aliens tomorrow and never reformed, it would make zero difference.

The Windows default apps interface is bigger, it is mos certainly not better.

The other complaints about default files is again, something that is completely predictable: when you make part of the file name the sole way of identifying what can open that file to the OS, the problem of extension overload is inevitable.

It’s stupid and fragile and mostly seems to rely on “last owner wins”, which is just fucking stupid. But it makes the Linux derps happy, and really, it’s the opinions of six nerds at Apple that counts.

The best part is, if you can sneak it by the warnings, you could absolutely create havoc with a script that deleted all filename extensions in a home directory. Most people would only be able to recover via a restore from backup.

So secure. Such protect.

The rest of it shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the platform, and honestly is not worth going into.

But as far as the “I don’t want it to be a weird flat Mac” shit: the only non-Mac comparisons were one sentence about windows, and a couple random android bits.

So yeah. (No i didn’t make it through the entire article, dear god, even I can’t drink that much coffee.)
