An interesting game you play when buying a house: trying to figure out how existing things work when they have no visible brand names or model numbers. Thank goodness for modern image recognition.

christophersu,

Maybe turns the fan on and off throughout the day to mimic presence in the home to deter theft? Some smart lights have a function along those lines.

has anyone built a bridge from threads to RSS using activitypub? is it possible?

I tried looking into activitypub once and it’s iust as confusing as people say, so hope I don’t have to be the one to build this…

christophersu,

Someone mentioned brid.gy here, but I couldn't find if it supports this currently. @shnarfed, is this a thing already? I saw there were RSS feeds for the websites being bridged with Bridgy Fed, but couldn't find a way to get one for an already-ActivityPub actor.

christophersu,

There's also https://fed.brid.gy (https://fed.brid.gy/docs#web-how-post) and https://rss-parrot.net for the RSS->ActivityPub direction, if you don't want to implement or deploy something on your own

A question for the federistas.

If I paste the URL of a Threads post into a Mastodon site, shouldn't it be able to get a federated copy of the post and have the URL be a way to summon up a specific post?

I honestly don't understand how to create a link between the two. I don't think I've ever seen a Threads message on Masto.

As with everything in ActivityPup, the way to do something wonderful always escapes me! I'm not kidding.

christophersu,

Federated Threads post (and profile) permalinks should have this! @pcottle added such a tag to the HTML <head>.

Hey @threads, consider adding a rel=http://webfinger.net/rel/profile-page entry to your WebFinger. It makes it easier to find human-readable profile pages from a fediverse handle. The profile URL that goes with a handle is hardly secret.

Use case: create clickable links from handles as we do on FediForum.org E.g. We can easily link to https://social.coop/@J12t given @j12t, but need to write Threads-specific code to do so to, say, https://www.threads.net/@pcottle from @pcottle .

christophersu,

Diff is stamped 😛

been a long day, but another step taken!

A few things I'm already noticing about how Threads federation works.

• Non-Threads usernames are not yet transformed into user links. That would also mean that any non-Threads user will not be notified if mentioned (for now).

• Quoted Threads posts DO get federated with a link to the original post, even if that original user is not yet participating in the Federation beta. Quote links are prefixed "RE: ".

• Posts containing MORE THAN FOUR images only have their first four images federated.

christophersu,

We should be including all the images when federating the post! I think it might be that Mastodon and/or that client is only showing the first four.

Threads Update 🔔🧵

We’re rolling out a beta of our fediverse integration in a few countries, including the US. Starting today, people who are 18 or older with a public profile can opt into a test that lets you share to the fediverse. You won’t be able to see replies or follows from the fediverse yet, but you’ll be able to see the total number of likes from Threads and the fediverse. To turn on sharing to the fediverse, go to your Account Settings and tap on Fediverse sharing.

christophersu,

Hi, @noellabo34! Would it be possible to add a publicly-accessible feed of posts on the server? Our guidelines for servers can be found here: https://help.instagram.com/914046486923176/

Yea, Ferry Building was great, as always! Shiny odds felt pretty good. How was your PokemonGO Community Day?
