An interesting game you play when buying a house: trying to figure out how existing things work when they have no visible brand names or model numbers. Thank goodness for modern image recognition.
Someone mentioned brid.gy here, but I couldn't find if it supports this currently. @shnarfed, is this a thing already? I saw there were RSS feeds for the websites being bridged with Bridgy Fed, but couldn't find a way to get one for an already-ActivityPub actor.
If I paste the URL of a Threads post into a Mastodon site, shouldn't it be able to get a federated copy of the post and have the URL be a way to summon up a specific post?
I honestly don't understand how to create a link between the two. I don't think I've ever seen a Threads message on Masto.
As with everything in ActivityPup, the way to do something wonderful always escapes me! I'm not kidding.
Hey @threads, consider adding a rel=http://webfinger.net/rel/profile-page entry to your WebFinger. It makes it easier to find human-readable profile pages from a fediverse handle. The profile URL that goes with a handle is hardly secret.
A few things I'm already noticing about how Threads federation works.
• Non-Threads usernames are not yet transformed into user links. That would also mean that any non-Threads user will not be notified if mentioned (for now).
• Quoted Threads posts DO get federated with a link to the original post, even if that original user is not yet participating in the Federation beta. Quote links are prefixed "RE: ".
• Posts containing MORE THAN FOUR images only have their first four images federated.
We’re rolling out a beta of our fediverse integration in a few countries, including the US. Starting today, people who are 18 or older with a public profile can opt into a test that lets you share to the fediverse. You won’t be able to see replies or follows from the fediverse yet, but you’ll be able to see the total number of likes from Threads and the fediverse. To turn on sharing to the fediverse, go to your Account Settings and tap on Fediverse sharing.
Hi, @noellabo34! Would it be possible to add a publicly-accessible feed of posts on the server? Our guidelines for servers can be found here: https://help.instagram.com/914046486923176/
this is huge! congrats to @mmccue and the team at @flipboard. so cool to see the careful consideration put into the approach as well, to follow the ethos of the fediverse and its existing communities.
