Okay. It seems like YouTube is the way to go, so here’s that song if you want to hear it. I’ll be posting more covers and originals as I record them. https://youtu.be/Sdko1Jcp15I?si=47C7b3cdRdeNf1wv

    @gwcoffey I was looking for some thing that is just an upload service. If I was going to do Vimeo, I’d just link out to YouTube.

    I’m on an extremely clean, affordable, fast, and timely monorail train to the airport in Naha, Okinawa. It even has these gated walls to prevent injury.

    Sometimes when I see what is possible elsewhere, I can’t believe the state of US transit.

    @adarsh We’re making progress in a lot of places, but it’s so slow and depressing to live with in the meantime.

    i have a feeling that something like 96% of AI product launches are just rebrands of existing features that weren’t so good to begin with

    collin,
    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    @exchgr 💯! I’m already tired of every app for writing or doing other creative things getting generative AI features put front and center.

    The last thing I want when I’m trying to be creative is to hit a button and have a robot do it for me, but all of these apps seem to think it’s the most exciting thing.

    Why is that my Elgato capture card would work through the Apple USB-C Multiport Adapter, but not through my Anker hub when there is nothing else plugged into it? I feel like I'm missing something?

    collin,
    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    @mzarra That's what I thought maybe too. It has a PD in port that I'm using. Very strange.

    collin,
    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    I've tried plugging my 140w MacBook Pro charger into the PD-in port of the Anker dock, so if the capture card freezes now, I think that's pretty definitive that this setup isn't going to work.

    If you want to hear one of my songs, I posted this one called “Love is the Reason”. It’s a little more country than my others, but I like it. Everything I say in it 100% happened. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7DX6mPrD7i/?igsh=MTJtN2t1azl4dXI2Zw==

    This doesn't happen often, but I am willing to concede that I may look pretty hot in this photo.

    If the EU wants to make everyones lives better, they should make it illegal to sell a cable with a USB-C connector that doesn't support at least USB 3.1.

    collin, to random
    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    Is the USB-C connector the greatest monkey's paw in computer history?

    collin,
    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    @mdstevens0612 Only the devil could have come up with this. You'll have a small, attractive, reversible connector… but every cable will support different speeds 😈

    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    Making the two things I love most — music/audio and computers — both of which require the thing I hate most — cables — was potentially a miscalculation.

    It's pretty incredible how much mileage we've gotten out of a seven note scale and many many songs using some version of a 1-4 or 1-4-5 progression.

    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    So I think what I'm going to do is record demo versions of the songs I have that feel finished or close to it and put those on Soundcloud. See if I can get some feedback, make adjustments, and then re-record the ones I want to put on streaming.

    I don’t know if it’s the best a journaling app could be, in fact it’s definitely not, but the Apple Journal app is the only one of these things I’ve used over a period of time somewhat consistently.

    The thing that JetBrains IDEs really fuck up UI wise is that they mix your global IDE settings and project settings into the same panels. I should have a place for project settings and a place for IDE settings. Seems basic?

    collin,
    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    @hboon yeah, that’s okay for those kind of settings, but I mean things like target SDK or whatever that only lives in the editor.

    It seems like the Elgato Cam Link/Game Capture devices really need to have the entire USB bus to themselves to work properly. If anyone knows an alternative that isn't ludicrously expensive and does 4K, I’m all ears.

    When a app supports versions, it's really quite cool and useful. I wish more did.

    collin,
    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    @jonhendry Sort of like that, but it's a separate feature which doesn't require having Time Machine set up. They added this a long time ago now. It lets you view and revert to previous versions of the document you're looking at, but the app has to support it. https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/view-and-restore-past-versions-of-documents-mh40710/mac

    collin,
    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    @jonhendry I think it's all part of NSDocument. My impression is it's pretty trivial if you're already doing all the other document stuff, but I could be wrong.

    I know I want to record music and publish it, but I find the whole publishing part a bit confusing.

    Should I put out a single first? If I put up a single on streaming and then want to add that as a part of an EP, is that easy to do?

    collin,
    @collin@ruby.social avatar

    @muz4now @skryking That's helpful! Thank you.
