If you really can't stop progress, then that means we can prioritize other things, like safety, general well-being, or preservation of natural resources, because the progress will happen anyways.

Just curious - of folks who follow me here on Mastodon, what is your desktop of choice? KDE Plasma, GNOME, Mate, Cinnamon, Cosmic, Xfce, other?

(Tried a poll, but apparently Mastodon only allows 4 options? That's woefully insufficient.)

deshipu,

@jzb xfce, but highly customized

Ramdom thought: Proper grammer used to be important to prove that you was educated, but maybe its best to avoid it to prove that your not AI.

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@dabeaz Please think about the non-native speakers, though. Mangled grammar is all fun and games, and you can easily grasp the meaning if you have experience with the language and the common mistakes people make, but it's absolute hell for people trying to translate it, either by hand or automatically. Add spelling mistakes, so that the words can't be looked up in a dictionary, and you have successfully excluded a large portion of the world's population.

Has anyone used assembly service with some components skipped? Does the paste still get applied to those pads, or does JLC remove those openings from the stencil? If not, I can do it myself, just curious 🙂

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@arturo182 There is an option for that on the first page. It costs a bit extra to have the paste applied.

  • How will I know this is it? That this is the one and only?
  • You make a decision.
  • And if I'm wrong? What then?
  • Then you try again.
  • How many tries do I get?
  • As many as you need.
  • That doesn't seem fair.
  • It's not a game.

Dear , I don't want to see shorts ever. If I selected a short, that was a mistake. It means I'm currently swearing at your abysmal UI, frantically trying to make some inane babble fuck off before inevitably giving up and killing the entire app.

new kubernetes video game idea, Taints Row

i'll see my self out...

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@elmiko You know, what? That would actually explain a lot!

If it's supposed to be a game, there is no point in making it easy or practical. You just have to learn by trial and error the patterns you need to advance to the next level, just like in Lost Souls or something. They don't have to make sense or serve a purpose, it's the process of figuring it out that's important.

Thank you, that covers a lot of technical decisions that were baffling to me!

you know hacking kubernetes manifests is so much more comfortable in python... is there any drive to get a yaml processor into the python standard lib?

#python #yaml #kubernetes

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@elmiko There is a general push against including anything in the python standard library, and some stuff has even been removed. The reason for it is that the "batteries included" really tend to go stale after a while, and you can't really replace them.

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@elmiko To be honest, if I were to include a yaml parser in a standard library of anything, I would first wait for the format to be formally standardized...

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@elmiko there is always xml...

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@elmiko I'm sorry. You can also install the python library system-wide, perhaps? Or include it with your code.

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@elmiko I mean, there is probably a yaml parsing library packaged already?

Filmy, długaśne, hałaśliwe, otępiające zmysły i intelekt dopełniły dzieła. Pimpuś w rurkach mesjaszem, permanentnie obrażona na cały Wszechświat Chani jednej miny, rychtyk do pary z wiecznie rozkapryszoną amazonowską Galardrielą z jej króliczym pyszczkiem… no dajcie spokój. Może ktoś lubi, kiedy mu ciosają kołki na głowie, ja – nie. "

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@flamenco108 Ależ wodzu, co wódz? Jakie znowu kwadraty?

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

deshipu,

It's not that AI can replace good software developers.

It might even just barely be enough to replace those who mostly replicate existing code anyway.

But what it will do is foster the acceptance of bad code, or even non-working code by management and the general public.

It's the carpenters complaining that people buy that cardboard-table from IKEA, because it's 5% the price.

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar

@Chaos_99 The Jacquard looms didn't replace good professional weavers, but still flooded the market with cheap textiles.

OMG but I hate Python.

I just want to run some spike detection code I made a while ago.
Instead of spikes I get a weird error. So now I need to update package 1, which requires updating package 2, 3, 4, 7, and 28, which in turn want a newer version of python (except package 9 which refuses to work now of course), so I also need to reinstall anaconda completely (fuck knows why the upgrade button never works)...
And of course none of that actually runs, so I need to figure out how to make things go in a docker container that is in turn wrapped in whatever the hell a singularity is?

deshipu,
@deshipu@fosstodon.org avatar
