@danirabbit What is the support scheme of elementary OS? I mean how long security or feature updates are provided for each major release. Do I remember correctly that the inheritance from Ubuntu LTS means the same support range for the base system as its upstream distribution? Just thinking whether I stick to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS for now or switch to elementary OS 8 once it is released.

@i2h3 Updates for libraries, the kernel, etc all come directly from the Ubuntu repositories so you’ll get them for the lifetime of Ubuntu LTS. Any Flatpak apps will continue to get updates basically forever. Apps and desktop components made by elementary and not shipped as Flatpak will get updates basically until we shift development focus to the next major version. Some things can be backported and will continue to get new releases for a bit, but some things can’t and won’t

It’s Global Accessibility Awareness Day! We’ve been striving to build accessible experiences in elementary OS for quite some time now with features like an audio prompt in the installer and desktop filters to assist folks with color deficiencies. We surface accessibility features next to every other feature as part of our curb cuts initiative and we’re always listening for ways we can do more 🩷

I've heard before "the Elementary OS community is small but very active/engaging". Where is that community? The official website links to Reddit and Slack. I don't feel like visiting Reddit regularly. To be able to join Slack I need a Gmail or Apple email, or an Elementary domain email.

Is there anywhere else were conversations happen?

I've been really keen to try @elementary OS 8, but the daily ISOs have been broken for a week now. Can't install or even get to desktop in test mode.

@tnetenbaa On the builds website you can scroll to the bottom and see builds going back for about a month. So if an older build worked for you, you can always grab that and upgrade. It looks like Ubuntu packages are moving around in a way that’s causing breakage currently, so hopefully that’s resolved soon!

Just curious, what would a modern GTK 4 app, made for @gnome, would look like on @elementary? Would it look like a GNOME app, or would there be some sort of theming?

@atplume Developers can choose to support Granite styles in their Adwaita apps if they desire, but Adwaita-based apps bundle their own styles so they will look as the developer intended :)
