so @TomF talked me into making it so blending colors on the #Mega68k console is true blending rather than resolving back to one of the 64 palette colors (so that the output is always 64 color)

i made a utility that takes an image and converts it into a tile layer with only 16 base colors with the framebuffer overlaid using all 64 colors with alpha blending and i can't help but wonder if this isn't too powerful

Processed version of the FF7 image with light ordered dither. It's slightly crunchier, but retains all of the detail and looks almost as good
Base color layer for the processed image. It has very few colors and is fully opaque and very noisy
Blend color layer for processed image. It has a lot more colors but is still very noisy both in terms of colors and opacity

i mean you can only do this with static images, so i guess it's like a sort of secret 4096 color mode that you can only use for that?

grabbed a background from opengameart.org (https://opengameart.org/content/backgrounds-3) processed it and slotted it into the battle scene i've been working on and

yeah, i'd say that works pretty well?

in case its not clear you overlay the 4th image in the original post on the 3rd and you get the result. like this:

photoshop file with two layers, one noisy base color layer and one blended layer. moving or hiding the blended layer shows that it only combines properly when lined up exactly to produce the final image

@tk the only thing i can think of to suggest is to grab https://github.com/gabomdq/SDL_GameControllerDB/blob/master/gamecontrollerdb.txt and put it i think in the same folder with the exe file

otherwise im kind of out of ideas and dont really know how to help fix this

@tk asking around i got the suggestion of deleting the local copy of SDL2 in case it needs a newer version and you have a system version installed
