John Oliver did a crypto episode on Last Week Tonight! 😁

(I'm not in it, I just helped a little with the content and fact-checking)

No such thing as bad press 😈

Real Time with Bill Maher had an episode last week where he had Ben McKenzie on and they're crying "crypto is not going away, what do we doooooooo" and Ben kept claiming that the SEC needs to step in because "these are securities" except... our boy Gary Gensler already covered that Bitcoin is not a security and he won't budge on Ethereum either because the window of opportunity for that closed a long time ago

Attention nerds:

Does anybody out there have a SCSI-to-USB adapter? I'm talking with somebody in the Internet Achive and they have a circa-1991 SCSI hard drive (looks like a 50 pin model) that they want to image and archive.

Please boost?

He's clearly gone too far on the 'anti-woke' shit and they really really don't like him attacking businesses like Disney.

Attacking businesses is not Republican

> Flag ineligible voters & locations before they are mailed a ballot….

LOL ok so these people have never actually worked the polls before

> We are the Fractal technology team delivering massively disruptive technology to solve problems no current technology can solve.

> Fractal is a new compute stack – enabling current computers to run applications 1,000 to a million times faster than Oracle, relational technology, SQL and other current technology.

ahh so they're full of shit

I worked the polls in Wisconsin. I know how the system works. Every state should use this system:

Feel free to flood the streets with ballots. Drive through neighborhoods and dump them out the windows. Mail stacks of them to every address in the state.

If you're not registered you're not getting your vote counted. And nobody's casting a ballot twice. It's literally impossible.

All the mail in ballots are delivered to the locations where the voter would cast their ballot in person. A polling official cosplays at the voter and walks through the process as if the vote was being cast in person. A second ballot cannot be cast by mail or in person. If a second ballot is attempted to be cast under the same registered voter it is immediately noticed and opens an investigation.

The only thing you could do is try to cast a vote in the name of another registered voter hoping they don't vote in that election and that they don't notice a ballot was cast in their name so the fraud goes unreported.

But that's why it's important we get ballots into the hands of every registered voter and ensure everyone votes in every election.

the database is not a concern if we have a paper trail and we can hand count

feld,

> You cannot work the polls before election day, but you can work the databases anytime

except you can't because the GOP in many states blocked processing of mail in ballots until after the polls close. So nobody can pre-seed the election database with votes.

You have not actually provided any new information about this topic that the current voting system (in Wisconsin, which should be a model for all states) fails to address.

The only thing this Omega platform could possibly be used to for is "kicking ineligible voters off the rolls" but that's not a problem in practice except in situations like in Florida where ~20 citizens with felony records were told they are allowed to register and vote, then voted and were prosecuted for it. Obviously the registration process should have caught this in the first place. But regardless, those people should have been allowed to vote because they served their time and they were only restricted due to unpaid court fees (which is a poll tax)

Also all states should permit same day voter registration (like Wisconsin) where you can walk up, provide your ID and proof of residency in the voting district, get registered on the spot, and vote.

> The technology they have built is able to fully scrub the ENTIRE voter-roll one hour before the polls open.

Wow, a full scrub in ONE HOUR? Amazing, I bet they invented the SQL JOIN

Still won't work and we'll have a handful of dead people who casted their ballot early being counted because there is no such thing as an accurate death database in the USA. The Social Security database is no longer usable for this and many rural hospitals don't get deaths officially registered with the state for months

I think these Omega folks should probably go to prison for fraud, because that's what this system is

feld,
@feld@bikeshed.party avatar

it's vaporware anyway

> Fractal technology enables never-before-possible voter roll reconciliation with property tax rolls, FEC contribution rolls, lists of hotels, jails, RV Parks and other locations that should not be the address of a registered voter.

There are people who actually live at RV parks. Like @SlicerDicer

feld,
@feld@bikeshed.party avatar

and you're allowed to vote from jail. and some people live in hotels for a long time, like when their homes are destroyed by hurricanes...

and what does FEC contributions and property taxes have to do with this?

feld,
@feld@bikeshed.party avatar

Show me proof of what this technology did in Wisconsin

feld,
@feld@bikeshed.party avatar

So it didn't prove itself in Wisconsin then, got it

Tiger Global probably killed TimescaleDB, or at least that's why they shut down the Promscale project.

Looks like they are also a huge investor in Redis and CockroachDB. Good luck to them!

Apparently Fox News fired Tucker Carlson. They say they've agreed to "part ways." But Tucker's last show, which really turned out to be his last show, mentioned nothing about him and his show being removed from the network.

So I'm calling it a firing.

And I wish him a very pleasant day of being hit by the crosstown bus.

feld,
@feld@bikeshed.party avatar

well they lost 700M+ from his antics and I'm pretty sure letting him play "unhinged conservative broadcaster" was not making enough money to cover the damages anymore
