Surely, 2024 must be the Year of Linux on the Desktop, when the supermarket starts selling collectable Tux stickers. 😃

That sense of anticipatory excitement when one receives a text message in the morning. What will it say?

Only to discover it is a reminder from the energy company to submit a meter reading. :blobsad:

UK General Election on July 4th.
I wish it was Independence Day.

The elections are for the parliament at Westminster, London.

They have held multiple elections on the same day before. It never works well. People get confused about who they are voting for.

@vincent
Probably, May 2026. Unless the government collapses before then.

fitheach,

Just seen the LibDems out already, erecting election posters. They didn't waste time. Probably because they aren't otherwise gainfully employed.

That's more than most Scottish people do. 😃

I've never been wild about the exterior of the building, although many do like it.

Ready to revisit TÜVLITA.

Got a new fire extinguisher too, because the old one was 10 years old.

Need to figure out who services extinguishers around here for next time.

This is going to sound dumb...

I've wondered for years why I couldn't send emoji in text messages (MMS).

Quite by accident, I've discovered that, all this time, I could. All I had to do was press, and hold, the enter button on the AOSP keyboard. This raises the emoji selector.

Why did no-one tell me?

By all means, let's protect our natural environment, but, we DON'T need another bureaucracy.

No more national parks.

I'm not alone, I've seen a few such banners in the locality.

Not as if the ones in Cairngorms or Loch Lomond have been a roaring success.

Losing democracy for a few bawbees would be well worth it, I'm sure.

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@peterbrown
The boards are comprised of the usual mix of the "great and good". That isn't representative of the local community.

I live not far from the border of the Cairngorm NP. I have never heard a good word about it from LOCALS. NPs being a good thing is usually a view expressed by city folk.

NPs aren't even good for their stated objectives. I refer you to:

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@peterbrown
No, it is up to local people to stop it.

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@peterbrown
None of these things require a national park. Legislation could be amended to allow or mandate councils to do them. This also has the advantage that all suitable areas could be covered, and not just three specific ones.

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@peterbrown
Exactly. No need to ghettoise.
