Well, it's cold and dark and wet. I feel my winter persona creeping ever closer. Hibernation mode is difficult to resist. Especially in Scotland. I'd prefer clear, crisp days with snow if possible. It's definitely not as dreich in the grand scheme of things. Here's hoping.
@JackTheCat I've been prepping for hibernation pretty much since I got back from Scotland, although I wasn't expecting it this early 😐
Eugh, I hate snow. Ever since I lived in places that get six foot dumps of it overnight when you've left the snow shovel in the barn and have to dig your way out with a frying pan 😂
@JackTheCat We seem to have settled into a state of semi-competitive mithering this morning and I'm not having it. Pack it in 😂
PS - the trek from Aggie's does indeed sound grim. Rather you than me.
Invasion had the potential to be a half-decent, grown-up sci-fi series until they dragged in those pesky theatre-schooled, desperately talented kids and gave them whole linking episodes to themselves. Just dreadful. 🤨 #InvasionAppleTV
There are a plethora of "hey, isn't Rory Stewart great" articles popping up lately, as if he's the lost saviour of "compassionate Conservatism". He's got an appalling voting record - I'd encourage you to have a scroll through. Against (just a few egs):
regulation of gambling
publicly owned railway system
raising welfare benefits at least in line with prices
measures to prevent climate change
more powers to the Senedd/Holyrood/Stormont
He's still a Tory. https://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/24964/rory_stewart/penrith_and_the_border/votes #UKPolitics
@jkfanghanel Well yes, but the point of my post was that he's getting a lot of press that seem to be painting him in a "he's different from other Tories" light, just because he's not one of the monstrosities in government now.
@glynmoody Well that's the point though, isn't it? Putting one foot in front of the other without kicking someone in the head is better than what we've got now, so the whole idea that he's some kind of messiah just because he's not one of "those" Tories is perverse. Also he does like to bring up the "being kicked out by Johnson" thing, as if he were the only one.
He just gets on my tits, basically 😂
@CloudyMrs Yeah, there's not much of an ideology gap between Campbell and Stewart, that's why I can't listen to their podcast (although I did try a couple of times).
@CloudyMrs That's what I found infuriating. It gets so much hype because one's supposedly "left" and the other's a toff.
Bravo for listening - I'd rather puncture my own eardrums tbh, so consider it a public service.
Also, hard agree with the plastic Scotsman stuff. If they don't think Scotland exists, imagine how they look at Wales.

Well headline #inflation is down to 6.7% (in figures released this morning).... but will the #BankofEngland care... No!
They will only be satisfied when they have forced a #recession, plunged #workers into (further) penury, raised #uneployment & by doing so neutered workers power to organise through fear of being out of work.
Its the toxicity of the Phillips Curve written into policy making....
@ChrisMayLA6 I was just reading this story. I love the way the smallest possible increase is being touted as some kind of economic miracle pulled off by the Treasury/BoE. All this "easing pressure on potential rate rise in September" is the same stuff I remember hearing in May 🤔
Thank god the #ONS doesn't include military procurement in its basket of goods when measuring #Inflation...
The UK's new military drones have jumped by 40% in price (according to the FT)... and it looks like a dely in procurement a couple of years ago, to bank costs savings, has led to exposure to spiralling costs since (that cannot be brought down even by extending the programme & the spreading the costs over it).
But, hey, at least its not greedy #workers pushing up the prices...
@ChrisMayLA6 In the sense that there's an infinite number of zeros that can be added on to each project's budget and an infinite extension of delivery dates, I guess it is 😠
That #RishiSunak is happy to 'water down' (a phrase widely being used in reports that apparently the #Tories would prefer not to be used) measures to reach #NetZero, tells you that at the back of his mind is the assumption that he & his rich chums can buy their way our of the effects of the #climatecrisis.
Not only is this a lack of leadership on the #environment, it also misunderstands the direction of younger people's #political views;
its a short-term political gesture & yet more wrecking!
@cliffco58 The trouble with her is she completely devalues the decent stuff she has to say in Parliament by these cackhanded rants and "poor me" defences.
@adrianfry I'll take your word for it. I've only had absinthe twice and let's just say both occasions ended up being the stuff of legend. In the way that these days would be seen as horrific but in the 90s were lauded 😬
I think we might have traumatised the ducks on Marsh Boulton village green the second time 😂
