The Physics of Faraday Cages: You can't block electromagnetic waves, but there's still a way to keep electronic devices like cell phones in stealth mode. https://www.wired.com/story/the-physics-of-faraday-cages/

gaffa,

@JenLucPiquant

Electronic music composer Wendy Carlos enclosed her Manhattan music studio in a Faraday cage due to the extremely high level of RF energy in New York City. It brought the noise floor of her custom built mixing board down dramatically low.

Well, ok, if you say so, Hulu.

gaffa,

@jeffjarvis

It's actually a pretty decent documentary about pre-Hayes Code films and how they eventually threw off the shackles.

The iPhone 13 mini is dead, leaving small phone lovers in a lurch

One-handed phones are a dying breed. It makes sense, but it's also a bummer.

One-handed iPhones, you mean. The Android ecosystem offers anything you want. I'm typing this on a nice, comfortable Google Pixel 6A that takes amazing photos.

    One of the programs they're wanting to completely eliminate is puppetry. There are only two universities that have a program. Some might think it's not vital, or possibly even trivial, but it's a legitimate art form, and they have an excellent program.

    According to American Heritage, 70% of the collectors of this stuff are themselves Black.

    From the 1993 article:

    "About 70 percent of the collectors are black, and they include Bill Cosby, Oprah Winfrey, and Whoopie Goldberg, whose mantel is lined with Mammy figurines."

    Try to take the long view.

    My wife and I have been on the Internet since 1988, calling from Kansas City to Cambridge Massachusetts to get access.

    We remember the day the very first Spam appeared.

    And we have seen communications methods appear and disappear, like mushrooms after a rainstorm.

    Usenet, IRC, chat rooms, you name it.

    They're born, they live, they die.

    Try not to take it personally.
