gandalf_der_12te,

Does she have no shame? How can she lie like this?

‘A catastrophe’: Greenpeace blocks planting of ‘lifesaving’ Golden Rice (www.theguardian.com)

Scientists have warned that a court decision to block the growing of the genetically modified (GM) crop Golden Rice in the Philippines could have catastrophic consequences. Tens of thousands of children could die in the wake of the ruling, they argue....

gandalf_der_12te,

Depends on what you consider a “native species”. Are apples a native species in germany?

If not, then why do we still mourn the loss of “old”, “traditional” varieties?

gandalf_der_12te,

Yes they are. Capitalism brain-rot has infected most of US workforce today.

gandalf_der_12te,

I think the best aspect about these dams is that they are already there. We don’t need to do massive investments in our infrastructure to built giant batteries, since water power is already there and can be easily modified to act as storage additionally.

gandalf_der_12te,

Solar panels consist mostly of Silicon, which is the most abundant material in earth’s crust. There’s really no “mineral” whose mining causes fewer problems. And i put “mineral” in quotes because it’s not your typical mineral that you have to dig up to use.

Also, solar panels are entirely non-toxic, making their safe disposal a non-problem.

gandalf_der_12te,

Water is a living space. It harbors all kinds of life. It’s not good that we try to industrialize rivers. Not good at all. We should use only wind and solar as renewable energy sources. And batteries for storage.

gandalf_der_12te,

Realistically, it’s not gonna happen.

Energy usage is going to increase (quite a lot, if you ask me) in the future due to low-cost solar power. But also, I have to say, that’s a good thing. Solar power has almost no environmental impact at all, and if you can’t cherish that, but still doom into depression, then I would recommend reconsidering your lifestyle and maybe talk to a therapist.

There’s a few problems:

  • radiation being higher than on Earth
  • 6 months travel to Mars needs many supplies
  • there’s no construction material in outer space. Therefore, no or few spare parts. Everything that’s lost (think leaks) can only be replenished after 6 months.
  • artificial gravity?
  • has to be self-sustaining and able to develop and grow.
gandalf_der_12te,

Oh no you can’t. Building a ship that can cross the ocean (without you drowning first of course) is actually quite difficult. Not only does it have to be extremely durable, you also have to have a lot of knowledge to navigate. And then there’s the economic problems, like who pays for it, how do you get enough food, etc…

gandalf_der_12te,

“We’re pushing the can down the road. Problem is, we’re running out of road.”

gandalf_der_12te,

Nono you misunderstand. It’s not “non-binary”.

I’m calling myself enby, which is short for ein bisschen gay.

gandalf_der_12te,

nonus for short

You don’t know whether you’re male or female, unless you look into the mirror, or somebody observes you?

Edit: That checks out, actually. I forget my gender all the time that I’m not thinking about it.

gandalf_der_12te,

Yes, but the probabilities (for the lightning) are not independent. So, while everyday there is a 50% chance to be hit be lightning, it’s the same outcome every day. If you didn’t get hit by lightning yesterday, you probably won’t today either.

gandalf_der_12te,

A bit can have two states: true or false. Additionally, the bit can be disabled altogether (null).

gandalf_der_12te,

My father. He’s just a fine dude. Does a lot of things right, is never angry at anybody for too long, and just generally understands what’s important in life and why.

gandalf_der_12te,

While “having fur and producing milk” may have been the original description of mammals, biology no longer classifies things that way.

Today, all of the classification is based on Clades, which can be established by doing DNA investigation (similarity matching). So, “mammals” are defined as a clade. And whether somebody falls into it or not depends on their DNA similarity. And coconut clearly do not belong into there.

gandalf_der_12te,

Also, beware the diseases. Milk can spread virus AFAIK.

gandalf_der_12te,

But “idiot” isn’t a name, i guess?

/jk Sorry, I’ll show myself out.

gandalf_der_12te,

highly interesting. I assume it is the abstract thinking process, combined with dissociation from yourself?

Then maybe, any puzzle computer game might provide similar effects.
