The siddur was delivered for me to pick up at the Nazi owned shop. The contradictions of life: I hated going there, but was very happy to receive the book ...
Why do people keep kosher very strictly, but then take the car back home from the service? And is there a reason food served in the synagogue is parve (easier with the cookware probably)?
And: Shabbat Shalom!
@em@hundertsieben Also important to remember that a "mitzvah" is not -Christian style- the opposite of a sin. Each mitzvah performed is a positive action in its own right. Some are key essentials, but all are positive choices Driving to shul is better than either driving to not-shul or not going to shul. Going three times a year is better than going once.
@serge@hundertsieben What is the view on using mobile phones, considering that as long as it is switched on prior to Shabbat, you are not altering its state?
I like the security people at my workplace. Everything they do, they do it very sullenly. To every request they receive, they will tell you how hard it is on them. The amount of paperwork they have to do just so they can open a door for you, it must be like taxes, but five times as much.
But they will actually always help. They let you take your time. Fulfill any additional request you might have (while complaining, of course).

So. I wrote an e-mail to the hasidic-liberal synagogue two weeks ago. They didn't answer so far.
They have no public phone number (anymore), but active social media accounts, which I could contact.
Should I wait? Or not?
This might have been easier two months ago, and I'm afraid something might happen and it will become much harder. I could also send them a membership application, since they offer this publicly. I think it's weird though.
@hundertsieben They get a van and a list and drive up to Manchester (which is really the second city btw) to a kosher wholesaler's and bring down the items requested. Especially meat and challah. With maybe some other store cupboard kosher basics.
@shekinahcancook I have not read an awful lot about it, but German press has published some articles recently about Greta Thunberg having antisemitic opinions on the war.
@shekinahcancook Of course not.
I don't judge you for sharing her quotes, I wouldn't do it though. There are still enough other options. I thought you'd missed it.
But I feel like things are different in the US.
@raf@hundertsieben@shekinahcancook mmm... there's a huge difference between only saying something privately and not every statement has to denounce Hamas.
If you're going to go hard on Israel, which isn't difficult to do legitimately, but have said nothing not one thing publicly about Hamas then you are implicitly giving Hamas a pass on their politics and actions. And are implicitly endorsing the slaughter of 1400 Jews.
It doesn't matter at that point what you say to me privately.
Now I'm not saying they can't be worked with but let's be real, they're the same people who looked away awkwardly as we got loaded onto trains. The exact same people.
@kjr FAU Dresden
You can’t really google their texts, it’s not the type of group that gives public statements (anymore), unless it’s related to labour rights in at least some way
lots of opinions inside the anarchist union federation though
I need to do something nice desperately, but my mind is occupied with so many really exhausting things like legionella in the new flat. Yes of course there are mandatory examinations, but the landlord doesn't really care so much.
I really need to sew, paint, write, get out of Dresden, take the dog for long walks ... but need to also move some furniture and do lots of paperwork.
Told my therapist today, "I want you to tell me what to do!", smiling slightly, her returning that smile, and both of us knowing this will (1) not happen and (2) neither do I want that. It's subtle, but a great example how well we communicate.
I got Timir as a puppy from the shelter and had no clue. Now I have this really difficult breed as a first time dog owner and people feel obliged to tell me their opinions ever since.
No, not every breed can be trained the same. No, more sports is not the solution. And a ‚more confident attitude‘ (whatever that is) won’t solve everything.
But yes, I am overwhelmed sometimes. Yet not ready to give up. I grew so much with her and right now, I want to continue that.
@hundertsieben my first dog was not recommended as a first dog but after a week of daily grilling and instruction by the breeder she decided I would be able to give her a good life.
She's a Catalan Sheepdog, smart, willful, extremely loyal and protective and we love each other.
She needs attention and work, some of her behaviour is difficult, such as tearing up to "threats" barking forcefully. Threats mainly being people, so I have to be careful, even though she won't bite. Loves dogs tho 👍
