japanese society has hundreds and hundreds of years invested in the idea of the pure centre and the polluted periphery, clean inside and dirty outside, and this model was internalised into the machinery of the japanese state at the time of the meiji restoration and became essential to the operation of its ruling class. 1/2

my masters was on the ethnicity, nationalism, and cultural responses to transnational migrants in the UK and the USA and i abandoned a PhD on the same topic in japan because, you know. life happens. but the interest remains.

I was scrolling through my Facebook looking for an old pic. I never use it anymore, but I’d forgotten how much I used to post there. Lots of pics, updates about stuff I was doing, G-rated shitposts, because you can only be so risqué when your grandmother follows you.

Today I learned FamilyMart has a limit of 30 coins to pay for anything. This is incredibly annoying as I only ever pay in cash for bills that require it, and over years I have attained a bag of coins I need to dispense with.

Legal tender is legal tender, and either it should be accepted or the government should eliminate it.

i always thought i couldn't make omelettes but it was just the fact i wasn't using a non-stick pan, and also wasn't using enough oil/butter to keep it from sticking

i usually have a class of kids that are the tryhards. and even the worst of them (usually) speaks passable English. but other classes... i've had kids unable to locate Canada on the map.
