I'm a firm believer in the social model of disability.

In a nutshell, it says that people aren't intrinsically disabled, but their environment disables them.

That may need unpacking.

See, humans are weird animals. We are bad at digesting arbitrary plant matter, and we don't have the physical properties of hunters (LOL at anyone talking about apex predators here). Really, it's a surprise there are so many of us from that point of view.

So what are we good at? We're good at building.

We just enter Germany. Train stops, cops board.

Me: hands cop ID

Cop: where are you travelling?

Me (thinking): to Germany, duh.

Me (out loud): home.

Cop: where is that?

Me: at the Ammersee lake.

Me: it says there on the ID.

Cop: yes, well, haha, those are exactly the questions that need asking!

Why are we paying them again?

So, folks, when you speak about Arch Linux, be aware that "Arch" sounds like a slightly misspoken "Arsch" to Germans, which means arse.

Butting into conversations with "I use Arch, btw" sounds different to us.

Just sayin'

Whenever I see some video or other about AR/XR prototypes, I want to break out my own vid of a floating cube in my then office.

I wrote some AR code back in ca. 2009 or so. Android didn't yet have API support to consistently layer an OpenGL surface over video. You had to hack your way around different models, and figure out by trial and error for each device whether to create the video surface or the OpenGL one first for things to be displayed well.

Oh, and screen rotate messed with that.

Dear Cthulhu, my eyes are bleeding.

This, by the way, is a prime example of highly manipulative writing.

It starts out by listing a few things that are difficult to deny.

It then associates other beliefs with these things, even though they are not related.

And then it continues to argue as if they were related, in a way that in itself is quite sound. It repeats this pattern several times.

This structure of argument is meant to make you believe that the association is actually...

I've been catching up with some games I buy for the kids, and recently played Planet of Lana and Gris on the switch. Both show an interesting trend, in that they're very beautiful games, but strangely empty.

I notice this in particular with the first, because it reminds me a lot in how the character steers of @jmechner 's Prince of Persia, or Flashback. And compared to either of these games, there is very little going on in each screen in terms of obstacles or puzzles.

And then there are...

This morning I woke up to have this tune stuck in my head.

I was today year's old when I learned that it's a song welcoming back survivors of the Maori battalion after fighting in WW2.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isMw5ntBJHA

To me, it's always been a song of my childhood, however, one of my earliest musical memories in fact. But I can only imprecisely date when I first heard it.

What I can say is that my father missed my third birthday, because he was away on business in Australia. I remember...

I'm wondering what makes you put "inventor of the hashtag" into your bio.

Even if it's technically correct, the tagging concept has been in use a long time before the # sign was prefixed. I remember other prefixes in use before that, too (including the @ symbol, believe it or not).

As innovations go, as successful as it is, it's also too trivial to call it an invention.

It's a decidedly weird claim for fame.

But I guess this is why I am where I am.

We have this school app, where kids can practice some topics, and get rewards. They can use the rewards for some games.

Our 8yo likes it to learn topics she shouldn't (i.e. not her school work), but that's kind of OK. She hates repetition to the point that her grades are actually quite bad, however smart she is. But she likes learning!

Our 4yo just finished pre-school topics around Christmas. He's now on year 1 of school topics.

The education system here is failing both of them.

So we finished watching the Fallout TV show the other day, and... well let's just say it's a stark reminder that the main plots are not the strength of the game series.

Without wanting to spoiler anything, the show follows a similar-ish thread as the main quest of Fallout 3 for one character, but adds in the perspectives of two other characters - which the games might have provided in side quests or message logs you might have found, etc.

Regarding themes, both in terms of design and...
