    @astrid I have one quite long file, with dreams commented out and nightmares in place ( aka akkoma ) and some questionable security - not actually hard coded plain text, It's not like I am being paid for this.

    I think my frustrations boil down to: It must be perfect, I have no attention span, and whatever I look at isn't the ol pkgs = [thingIWant]; like it was when I was running nix for my desktop.

    have I mentioned the attention span thing?

    @astrid I used to do it from memory - see attention span, then we had our own servers and clients, and memory was shot house.

    Then chef 0.3 and we didn't need to touch anything and then chef was on version 1 or .9 and had no clue about 0.3

    Then I forget.

    I am now building for me ( nix) and work apparently I am dev and posing Azure and have reverted to " someone else can script this " which totally won't bite me in the arse"

    Running a Mastodon instance is thankless work, which I imagine is why I've seen so many admins burn out already.

    some of the expectations I've seen around admins have further cemented my view on humanity.

    Like, it's hard enough to get paid and trained people to be able to manage some of the situations where no one is going to be happy, let alone some poor bastard who is just trying to hang out and contribute.
