Got two Turing tables and some microcode.

I work on back-end server-y type stuff at a place that keeps rockin' the free web. I like rust, python, and horrible puns (not necessarily in that order).

I tend to be nice for selfish reasons (I don't like hanging out with jerks).

A.I. Politics, from Bruce Schneier:

"Future candidates could use chatbots trained on data representing their views & personalities to approximate the act of directly connecting with people. Think of it like a whistle-stop tour with an appearance in every living room."

So is C'thulu the god of capitalism because he's the ultimate consumer?

If it's any help,

@oliphant maintains a set of block lists for known bad sites.
https://codeberg.org/oliphant/blocklists/src/branch/main/blocklists

If you run an instance, I would STRONGLY recommend that you import the 100.percent.csvlist at the least.

(You can import these for your personal account under
Preferences > Import & Export > Import > "Domain Blocking List")

I told some folk that I treat LinkedIn like I treat flushing my hot water heater. I'll go in once every year or two and clean up stuff.

So, you know, that's why I finally accepted that invite, if you were curious.

Just noting that the real fun comes when @donmelton boosts this post and you come in the next morning wondering why it suddenly has 70 replies, 240 boots and 892 favorites.

So, crypto currencies wind down just as AI starts to become more popular.

Kinda wondering if most big tech advances are actually funded by the energy companies to keep demand spectacularly high.

What will make me sad is that eventually artists will copy AI because that will be what sells better.

It's absolutely astonishing to me that all the folks who are so adamant that we need to honor the past and use statues to learn about the horrors have not stepped up to build a statue in honor of Osama bin Laden.

With the departure of Tucker Carlson from Fox, let us remember all his staff of writers, producers, assistants, and others who worked for years on his show and are now facing uncertain times in a difficult economy.

I'm spending those moments remembering they were also trash humans for supporting him and enjoying a few delightful moments of mirth.

I, too, pride myself on my fine attention to deetails.

Going to happily repeat this whenever I can.

Programming is a trade, like plumbing or electrical work. It's a set of skills that can be acquired without a dedicated degree, through experience, and there are plenty of very successful, legendary programmers who are examples. Many college courses focus on theory and concept over actual application, and skip things like coordination and collaboration, which are FAR MORE IMPORTANT for a career.

Pinning for later:

I'm working on a document to try and collect up Lessons and Learnings for Mastodon Server Admins. (Ideally for folk that have no experience running a mastodon server and don't know what to expect or what to watch out for.)

It's open for comments, and I'm willing to add contributors:
