Absolutely, however I think there is indifference or complacency in lay tech users. It might help open a few eyes if shown effects in peoples personal lives. For example, asking have you been getting obscene number of spam/robo-calls? That’s because your info was either stolen or sold by the company’s you shared it with. That would make the effect hit home better I think.

I remember when there was news that Facebook was listening to your conversations and suggesting ads when you logged in. Even if untrue it creeped people out, some even quitting Facebook entirely. Maybe something like that can happen with MS and they back off. Or better yet we legislate the shit out of tech companies, follow the EU way.

The Science Behind Red Nets: A New Dawn in Eco-Friendly Farming (scitechdaily.com)

“Recent research has shown that red nets are more effective than black or white nets in preventing onion thrip damage to crops, reducing the reliance on harmful chemical pesticides by up to 50%. This approach supports sustainable farming by minimizing environmental impact.”...

kippinitreal,

Changing color of existing nets is a trivial change for such a big gain! Sounds like we can be investigating color as insect repellent for other crops too.

Don’t like your first statement, but agree with your second.

kippinitreal,

Agreed. India is investing in a lot of sustainable energy sources, but more pragmatic than altruistic: they want energy independence. The good PR is a happy side effect.

kippinitreal,

India has the 5th largest hydroelectric power setup in the world, mainly because had poor access to fossil fuels and their extraction technology (even though it has vast stores of coal). It also acted as a good source of water for agriculture for a chiefly agrarian economy. As of 2020, 12.3% of power came from hydro, but fell in 2024 due to lack of rainfall. Which pushed up coal usage and emissions.

Ironic how climate change might push India to be less sustainable. However India is also investing heavily is solar, wind and nuclear, mainly as a backup for fluctuating geopolitics in Asia.

kippinitreal,

Holy shit that’s a busy “day one” man. I wonder if he’ll be able to do it? Will he be able keep his promises?

kippinitreal,

Yeah - this seems to be IBM’s next step in making RHEL a gateway to IBM’s AI trap.

kippinitreal,

Seems like a way to avoid paying the original crew residuals and/or royalties

kippinitreal,

Not OP, but I think he (along with other billionaire’s) got rich off of tax breaks and subsidies that were tax funded. No person can earn his kind of wealth on their own and without some sort of exploitation, usually of poor people. Paying ~4% is understandably less than bare minimum.

International court rules Switzerland violated human rights in landmark climate case brought by 2,000 women (www.cnn.com)

An international court in France on Tuesday ruled Switzerland’s failure to adequately tackle the climate crisis was in violation of human rights, in a landmark climate judgment that could have a ripple effect across the globe....

kippinitreal,

What a stupid argument to say to a recent teenager. You may think her methods are less effective, but action is action. Especially for a disenfranchised literal child.

I think a lot of memes are missing the main point of how it was caught, the exploit caused a spike in CPU usage for a network call. That made no sense to the guy Messiah who found/reported it. FOSS software’s strength is the number of critical eyes looking over each line of code you put out!

I remember reading that the production of the movie is spun off to a separate new company, which is in practical terms the studio itself. This new company then “leases” the rights to the studio for pennies. The studio then sells stakes of the movie earnings to investors to create funding for the production. Many local/state governments encourage the arts by giving tax credits and/or funding if a movie is shot in their state. If the movie tanks the dummy company declares bankruptcy and no one gets paid, except the studio.

Perhaps WB realized they can skip the release entirely and make back their money with tax credits by shelving the movie, artists + technicians + tax payers can eat shit.

I don’t know if this is true since I saw this on the internet. If anyone knowledgeable is reading this, Please correct me !

kippinitreal,

Can’t wait for the miners to get shafted and this to be worn by a tacky billionaire’s third mistress. Yay! /s

kippinitreal,

I dunno man, you’re giving far too little credit to kid’s intelligence. Its more scary to adults since we’ve figured out how the world works (atleast for us personally). I have hope the newer generation will figure out AI videos pretty quickly.

kippinitreal,

Wow all those rumors Apple was making a car were true

kippinitreal,

Because it already knows everything personal about you from your google account, chrome browser, search history, emails & files, and even your keyboard. Gemini wants to guess, because it’s more exciting that way! 🤩 /s

kippinitreal,

To give them benefit of the doubt, maybe they meant that they were trusted to be factual. “We owned the news” could mean most people thought “I trust the WSJ so if they say so it must be true”. But now in the age of misinformation, no one can be trusted.

But all this was said at Davos, the literal comic con for billionaire assholes. Its more likely they were talking about a news monopoly, facts be damned.

Dammit! I wish there were a news owner who could tell me what to think! /s

kippinitreal,

Damn right. Breaking Bad never made me, a grown man, cry uncontrollably. 9.6/10

kippinitreal,

Didn’t steam have a feature to add non-steam games to your library? Ofcourse it didn’t support all the steam features + it would allow steam gather data about “less-than-legal” copies of games associated with users 🤷

My dumb ass kid brain put all my “alternatively sourced” games to it thinking I was cool

kippinitreal,

Nope. I remember i had added deus ex human revolution & assassins creed 2. I would open steam to open up uplay to open up the game. 14 year old me thought I was a “hacker”
