I got lucky again with this Sailor PG Realo clear demonstrator with red finials and an H-F nib. This will look good with a bunch of colors, if I decide to match the ink to the season.
The seller didn't have the orignal box or bottled ink, but the pen was safely packaged in a protective bag taped to a a generous piece of bubble wrap inside a cardboard box. Now I need to decide on an ink.
@jezlyn Can you get some old ginger and some sugar to make ginger tea? Go to bed immediately after you're done drinking it. It's a home remedy I keep coming back to. I hope you feel better soon.
#FPQuestion of the day:
What are your thoughts on the recent trend of legacy pen brands being acquired by new owners? (e.g. Pelikan by Hamelin, Lamy by Mitsubishi Pencil, Sheaffer by William Penn) What do you think this means for the #FountainPen industry? #FountainPen
@penfount I'm not sure it's always a good move. Vintage Kaweco are reliable writers, some with gold nibs and piston filling mechanisms. Modern Kaweco have less than stellar converters and can be hit or miss. Geha got swallowed by Pelikan and now we only have a limited supply of vintage models. If the company that buys the legacy brand is knowledgeable, great. But otherwise, I'm okay with saying goodbye to brands.
@paradoxmo True, and they're in the cosmetics industry, iirc. That may contribute to the QC issues. I don't know if you think it's closer to the "re-birth" of Esterbrook.
@paradoxmo I like the new Esterbrook pens. I have one Estie OS with a Needlepoint nib which I'm happy with. In fact, I'm thinking about getting a second one with a Journaler nib. My initial comment stands: I'm not against legacy brands being bought up as long as the new owner knows what they're doing and is able to give customers good products. Nino Marino brought Delta back, right? And the people behind OMAS have been working for Scribo. I can get behind that.
@thomasfuchs I remember going to a New Year countdown party gleefully waiting for the electricity to be wiped out. We thought it was a bit of a let down when the whole Y2K hysteria turned out to be a big, fat nothingburger. 🤡
New pen achieved. I knew I was going to buy one eventually, but I was waiting for a used one in very good condition for a price that wouldn't make eating cup ramen for a month a necessity. I love the feel in the hand, the balance and how it writes. Welcome, my dear Custom 823. #Pilot#Custom#823

This peacock color is true to its name, a vibrant green-leaning blue or turquoise. Not much of a sheener although some red on the edges can be seen in very large writing. This is a nice high-contrast writing ink.
@pixiecata I'd love to join, but I don't have either Apple Music or Spotify Premium. I don't like Apple and I'd rather not upgrade to Spotify Premium. Is there any way to join/support this mission?
@paradoxmo@penfount Hobby soapmaker here: NO soap is based on EO. Castile soap is 100% olive oil, ideally cured for two years, because it's a soft oil. EO only ever adds a nice smell to the soap batter. =^_^=
@paradoxmo This is a great overview blog post. And every blog has to start somewhere. I'm looking forward to seeing it grow. Are there plans to have one main writer and some guest contributors?
@pixiecata It's the SF nib specifically that is picky. And I know from other comments that I'm not alone. Some people were so disappointed they gave up on their pens. I'm stubborn. I took a month of pen minimalism and Iroshizuku inks to get it to become tolerable. I expect it to improve with time. Paradoxmo and I had a conversation about this recently.
@pixiecata Have you tried adding Vanness's White Lightning or a tiny bit of dish soap? (Just enough to fit on the tip of a toothpick. Add to the converter/cartridge.)
@pixiecata Ah, too bad. As a lefty writer I'm always looking for dry inks - and we're basically (international) neighbors. But it's a very useful bit of intel. I'll have to buy a bottle for my M800.
@pixiecata One of my favorite brown inks. I'll need to replace 3 Oysters Americano with it. Can you get your hands on a sample of Americano? It might work for you.
#FPQuestion of the day:
Do you prefer or require waterproof or water resistant inks? Why or why not? Which waterproof inks are your favorites? #FountainPen#FountainPenInks
@penfount The overwhelming majority of my inks aren't waterproof or water resistant. I like Sailor Seiboku and De Atramentis Document Brown, but the use cases for making them necessary are limited. I'll probably go with of them in my Hobonichi Weeks for permanence.
