@lewis Oof. Crashing on the road is the worst. Glad you’re not too banged up.
I’m always wary of road paint and railroad tracks when it’s wet. I feel like I’ve seen enough crashes in pro cycling to especially be wary of the paint.
I’m very glad I prepared my first weeks #WeblogPoMo2024 posts. Moving house this weekend and we won’t have internet until Tuesday at the earliest, so no chance to write anything this weekend
@lewis I once made myself a super-king sized bed. It was a lovely thing – but it is still in the room where I made it, in a house I moved out of fifteen years ago, because it is too big to fit through the doors and too solidly made too easily dismantle.
@lewis Whenever there was something large that needed moving, my dad would say “Get you and some of your strong-backed, weak-minded friends to come help move this stuff.”
(They paid us and fed us, but only after some desks moved up a few floors)
Once again unable to say no to a commitment, I've signed up to WeblogPoMo 2024, in which I post something to my blog every day for the month of May
Ordered a massive pipe wrench to try and help remove a very seized seatpost (I don’t have a table vice), but then managed to get it unstuck before the wrench arrived so now I just like… have a pipe wrench that I’m almost certainly going to forget to return
@lewis At least you didn’t have to cut off the seat post and saw a slot with a hacksaw to get it out because it was corroded to the frame… I had to do that several years ago and it wasn’t very fun.
Streaming services need a “here’s what you’re watching on repeat” section so that I don’t have to search for the Goofy Movie every single time my daughter asks for it
@lewis agreed, also not dropping a cartoon from "continue watching" when you reach the last episode available, if you've clearly been through them all a few times already.
Think I might convert my old Peugeot bike into a single-speed for commuting. It'll eliminate so many issues I end up with around gears, wheels, & general maintenance.
I was considering doing it anyway to sell, but my LBS has suggested it for me as a commuting option, which is tempting tbh
@sarajw Manchester's pretty flat (at least within the city), so it's not too bad. Yeah, Bristol would be a nightmare, the hipsters there must have had thighs like He-Man.
I'd love a cargo bike, I did see you post about ordering one recently, I'd be interested to know how you find it once you've had it for a while
It’s CSS Naked Day[1], so to celebrate I’ve stripped all of the CSS from my
blog. I’ve added a quick Nunjucks shortcode to make it easier, so the CSS should automagically reappear tomorrow morning […]
Renting continues to get worse, as now Rightmove actually tries to get you to submit to a credit check just so you can send an email to a letting agent
@robb Yeah, it’s been steadily getting worse over the last couple of years. Like fuck am I giving away that amount of information just for the privilege of viewing a house.
Last week my wife went to one that was absolutely trashed - holes in the bath and walls, dirt everywhere. Asking rent was more than my friend’s mortgage on their London house
Nice Sunday ride out today, tackling a few short-but-steep hills in the area in an effort to get better at climbing.
My Specialized Allez has been such a brilliant bike, I’ve covered probably 12-13,000km on it, and I got it as a gift from a friend who was having a clear-out. But I really can’t wait to get my new bike, it should be ready within the next week or two according to Ribble
New post: Using Gitea/Github actions for triggering Echo
I decided to start using Robb Knight’s Echo tool, to syndicate my blog posts to Mastodon, and trigger Webmentions. I’m not going to go through the configuration of Echo here, the project README has some good instructions for setting it up. However, I […]
