While DuckDuckGo’s search results seem fine; I kept on getting results that when clicked, redirect to MSN and ask me to install some app.

And sure; since it uses the Bing API, the whole thing is down today.

The frustrating part to all this LLM hype, is that buried beneath the gold rush, snake oil and wacko stuff going on, there’s something actually interesting with them as a tool to expand your toolkit.

Approaching it with critical thinking and understanding, I have generally found them to be useful to brainstorm with. Not something that replaces the work, but something that can be used to help you think a little differently, seems to be the best of approach right now. IMHO, of course..

This year, I’ve been approaching the iPad with a different lens: it’s not a laptop replacement, and don’t force it to be.

Use it to get things done in a new way.

there’s a big need for something stronger than #RAG, but more flexible and cheaper than a giant all-knowing #LLM.

A great part about RAG is that it’s just a database. You just issue INSERT/UPDATE and yeah, that’s how you maintain knowledge. No million dollar training process

Final Cut Pro, Logic and Xcode were the ‘pro apps’ of the Mac era, but the pro apps of the iPad are tools like Procreate. Though iPad has moved towards the Mac over time, it's unlikely to replace it. Traditionally, Apple hasn’t really provided a whole lot of dedicated APIs a high-end illustration app could take advantage of; perhaps that is one of the axes of progression Apple could double down on, and maybe a new first-party AI-enhanced, layered, pro drawing app would make sense for dogfooding?

I hooked the Enchanted LLM app up to my #selfhosted #ollama instance tonight. Running on the epyc box with an nvidia a4000.

I can’t notice a difference in speed between this and the real chat-gpt tbh. And I own the whole chain locally. Man this is cool!!

I even shared the ollama api endpoint with a buddy over Tailscale and now they’re whipping the llamas 🦙 api as well. Super fun times.
