Them: you are culturally Christian, because of Christmas.

Me: it is Odin's day, my dudes.

@Loukas Luckily I celebrate Yule and not Christmas then, so there's no christian taint?

The idea that an inode has no idea which directory it's associated with was a mistake and I will take no questions

maswan,
@maswan@mastodon.acc.sunet.se avatar

@mjg59 Well, directories, since it can be in multiple ones?

maswan,
@maswan@mastodon.acc.sunet.se avatar

@mjg59 Except in the few places where it is the really nice solution that would need a whole framework of workarounds otherwise.

During my Computer Science Engineering study (2001-2005), I never had any paper on .

maswan,

@kushal

A couple of years earlier for me:

My CS course in algorithm analysis had us implement a large num library (good for exploring n log n vs n^2 etc with practical examples) to the point where we could do exponentiation mod and implement RSA. It was a neat series of exercises.

And on the mathematics track, I took a course in the cryptography. Interesting but not always easy to follow (the "why" of key sharing algorithms "n out of m secrets needed" work was hard for me,, as was ECC).

Maria Hall starting 2024.

@kushal Nice, I'd love to be there, but I'm in a higher priority meeting.

Feel free to push BSides Ume to relevant people too! :)

@davidrevoy The bold is much bolder and is actually visibly different, and the É et al I find clearer in Deevahand. Nice!

OK, now I understand why everyone hates CDG. Not flying via Paris again if at all avoidable. Such a terrible airport.

maswan,
@maswan@mastodon.acc.sunet.se avatar

@nlovsund
I've been a frequent traveler for about 15-20 years and I had avoided it so far, but for a meeting in Paris the options were limited. Not again, if I can.avoid it. :No:

I wrote up the Delinea Secret Server Cloud security incident situation: https://doublepulsar.com/delinea-has-cloud-security-incident-in-thycotic-secret-server-gaff-581a33990882

@GossiTheDog If only the Chief Security Scientist and Advisory CISO at Delinea had had an opportunity to listen to that episode, maybe they would have been better off!

I just dropped my kid off on her school trip to France… and I must admit I am a tiny bit jealous, as I am looking out into the rainy Swedish evening.

I wouldn’t want to go on a school trip necessarily, but I would want to sit in the sun in France or Italy and have a croissant or an Italian dolce.

maswan,

@nlovsund
I just checked the forecast for Paris next week since I have a work visit. 7 degrees and light rain is technically warmer than Umeå, but not by that much.

Of course, most of my time will be spent in an auditorium, but I wouldn't have minded slightly better weather (like this weekend's +20 and sunny).

If you see a long German or Swedish word, first of all, don't panic. It's more scared of you than you are of it. Secondly, take a closer look and you'll see it's actually just three normal words in a trenchcoat, huddling together to deter predators (French and English).

maswan,
@maswan@mastodon.acc.sunet.se avatar

@Loukas This strategy did not appear to work for smörgåsbord though.

maswan,
@maswan@mastodon.acc.sunet.se avatar

@Paxxi Yes, but despite those three words dressing up in a trenchcoat, the English took them. @Loukas

HT to @wdormann here - somebody has backdoored the open source project XZ which has downstream impacts.

For example, although OpenSSH doesn’t use XZ, Debian patch OpenSSH and introduced a dependency which translates as the XZ changes introducing a sshd authentication bypass backdoor it appears.

One dude bothered to investigate in his free time about why ssh was running slow, so it was caught fairly early - i.e. hopefully before distros started bundling it.

One could argue that your tax money should also be spent by GCHQ to happen to look into increased CPU usage after some weird lib update in all the places where they didn't plant anything.

maswan,
@maswan@mastodon.acc.sunet.se avatar

@GossiTheDog
Denying foreign actors access to UK companies secrets isn't in under economic advantage?

Ours actually has that in there (especially for govt entities and suppliers), as does (theoretically) NSA.
