We're excited to announce the latest Framework Laptop 13 with Intel Core Ultra Series 1, an optional 2880x1920 120Hz display (ideal for 2:1 scaling on Linux), and new configurations for businesses with 3 year warranties. Pre-orders are open now.

Can we please stop making custom dropdown menus that aren't keyboard searchable? It takes eons having to manually scroll through three separate lists of date/month/year instead of just typing out the numbers on my keyboard and pressing "Tab" to switch between the three menus.

Today I recommended @signalapp to a friend. However, he was anxious to use it because he works for the Swedish police, and encrypted chat apps are common in organized crime. Signal is definitely not prohibited for him, but I think he just didn't want to have someone at work question why he has it installed on his phone.

I think it's sad that crime is the first thing that people seem to think of when I bring up privacy-centric communication.

What would you have responded to him?

Can we please stop this trend of login pages hiding the password field until I've filled in the username/email field. It feels so annoying annoying having to active my password manager twice because it's unable to fill in the password immediately. You don't need to hold my hand while I log in, website.

Linux is an interesting choice for your operating system.

Learn what to avoid before going on this journey.

@itsfoss The biggest mistake I made when I started using Linux was to assume that you install programs the same way as you do on Windows, i.e. you search for and download the program with your web browser.

Linux package managers are awesome. Especially for the AUR which basically always has the program I want to install.

Today I wanted to surround different words/phrases in with formatting, e.g.

foo bar and .com → \texttt{foo bar} and \texttt{.com}

The “targets” are pretty irregular, the text to surround them with stays the same. What I did was:

  1. Highlight the first target in visual mode, e.g. ^v2e
  2. Start macro recording: qq
  3. Replace the text, utilizing :h i_CTRL-R to paste the original: c\texttt{<Ctrl-R>"}<Esc>
  4. Stop macro: q
  5. Select next text, apply macro: $viW@q

@scy In not sure why some Vim users are afraid of plugins, but Vimtex has built in support for this
