@Edent I will try to do something similar. Do you think there is space to explain what is an RSS feed and what is a newsreader at the top? Or is there a limit to how many characters you can have up there?

I get a little baffled - and sad - when I read negative comments from people about immediately blocking any ActivityPub experiments from Meta… before they even connect!

Yes, Meta has horrible privacy practices. Yes, they are all about selling you and your data. Agreed.

BUT.. in my mind THE END GOAL is GETTING MORE PEOPLE USING OPEN PROTOCOLS.

We should be inclusive and welcome them (as @stux is)

We can always block LATER.

@danyork @stux Rest assured that FB will make it harder for people to switch to a small community run instance before connecting with the Fediverse. They won't connect here so they can lose users. It happened with XMPP. Their implementation was very strange and in the end no one switched to non-FB servers.

I would live my friends to join us here. I think however for this to succeed we need to work for it instead of relying on Big Tech.

Looks like will be deleting inactive accounts after 2 years. This will hurt political prisoners who may not have had time to prepare for their lengthy imprisonment (e.g. setting up next of kin), who won't have access to any form of electronic communication for very long periods of time, sometimes over 5 years. When they are released, their lives will be turned upside down in every way, with the loss of data and, if it was their primary email, the inability to restore other services.

Meta’s ActivityPub-enabled Twitter competitor is moving ahead.

The project is called “Barcelona”.

It will be its own independent app, and it’s being pitched as “Instagram for your thoughts”.

How do you feel about Meta joining the Fediverse?
