Despite all my rage I’m still a rat refreshing this page.

I use arch btw

Credibly accused of being a fascist, liberal, commie, anarchist, child, boomer, pointlessly pedantic, and db0’s sockpuppet.

Pronouns are she/her.

Vegan for the iron deficiency.

I think more people do but it’s genuinely quite hard to know. If you walk into a shopping centre, you need to buy some pants. There are 8 stores that sell pants, in each store there’s some price range from low to high with some overlap, maybe the range for the cost is 5 dollars to 300 across the whole shopping center.

Which pants were made by slaves? There’s no label, the 300 dollar pants are still mass produced cotton and polyester crap probably made from cotton picked by literal child slaves. How do you decide? Ever company puts up signs about responsibility and ethical supply chains but there’s no enforcement so it means nothing.

There are some specialty sellers online but they’re often extremely expensive and not widely available. Is that the real cost? are they honest? Buying the 5 dollar pants is probably terrible, are the 50 dollar pants 5 dollar pants with a 1000% mark up? If so you’re even worse for buying those :/

How liberating it must be to have no choices, a mere puppet dragged along by your whims.

The first vegan I know lived a few thousand years ago in a blind body racked by smallpox but do go on about your life is sooooooo impossibly hard you can’t behave with a modicum of decency.

Idk, you probably just live an artificially clean life.

If you do any sort of manual labour you get all sorts of gross crap on you. If it’s on your hands it’s on your face a few moments later anyway.

Carcinogenic grease, random lab chemicals, who knows what the fuck from soil, lightly rotting food and bathroom grime from housework, kitchen grease whatever.

That’s why you wash your hands and face regularly through the day and shower /shrug.

My skin is mostly blemish free aside from a few moles, some scars from old piercings, and the occasional spot of hyperpigmentation from old wounds.

Why would you think otherwise?

I use my own homemade true soap (I’m convinced modern detergents are much harsher than they need to be and that a superfat of olive and jojoba oil is good for my skin) if a simple wash with water and a towel won’t clean me off.

Skin will only get angry if you strip away protective oils or clog up the pores with who knows what. I don’t scent my soap either, perhaps that makes a difference?

huh it’s not an argument it’s just my opinion. Dogs mouths are super dirty, saliva is a bit gross. If you are used to just getting dirty and clean all the time another way of getting dirty doesn’t seem that bothersome.

Like most people are grossed out by being vomited on, after you care for babies for a while or work security at a messy bar or whatever you stop being that grossed out because it happens hundreds of times. Work at a vet or on an animal farm and piss and shit getting on you stops being so nasty.

It’s not a moral judgement, just that if a pet licking you seems really gross you probably aren’t used to getting stuff on your face that you just go wipe/wash off.

Also yeah, pain seems worse because we’re not used to experiencing it, although pain is a bit special because our brains make us forget what it feels like so it’s always novel. You know how some people can just get hurt a lot and deal with it? they’re not superhuman, they just live lives with much more pain in them.

Oh psh, everybodies house is full of spiders and other friendlies. Also you can treat phobias unless they’re extremely severe.

So yes, an arachnaphobe probably hasn’t worked with spiders :p

I’m significantly afraid of heights, like woozy standing on a chair fear, hasn’t stopped me doing maintenance on a roof or riding all the horrifying giant drop rides/cross canyon flying foxes etc I come across. Fear doesn’t stop you doing stuff, you just have to do it scared.

Sorry, i’m drunk there was a point in there though, that exposure makes it possible to do stuff like work on the roof. And if I was way a lineswoman I would probably no more be afraid of heights by necessity. Humans adapt, only terminally online weirdos think you’re stuck in the condition you’re currently in.

that you were an enigma wrapped in a mystery? why on earth does this matter to you?

If it’s so important to you that you’re no stranger to mess then send me a picture with your hands in someone’s abdominal cavity and be done with it. You don’t like body fluids on your face, woooh join the parade, you’re so special. There are billions of you, what does it matter?

Torrenting exposes your public IP. In a country where government doesn't care, does that pose a risk?

I honestly don’t believe I will have any legal trouble because I don’t do anything like cp or worse, I just pirate media I like, not even porn. But across users of communities, or on public trackers, is IP exposure something to be concerned about?

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

If you actually need privacy you should use something like tor, or a box which you have access to that can’t or wont be traced to you (e.g. you have access to someone else’s by covert means, you bought a server with cash in the mail, you bought a server in a nation that will never cooperate with the nation you’re antagonising) which you tunnel to and use as a proxy.

A VPN is not necessarily very secure and doesn’t mitigate the most serious threats like phone home programs that will ID you over the clearnet later. Trusting a VPN is extremely dicey and should absolutely not be relied upon to keep you out of gaol. It’s better than nothing, but shouldn’t be over emphasised.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Assuming the government defs doesn’t care and wont cooperate with lawsuits.

Yes and no. Knowing your IP is sort of like knowing a PO box you rent. It can be used to try and transmit stuff to you, it can also be crudely geolocated, or if the person you’re buying it from gives you up it can be traced directly to you as a person.

If someone wanted to, and you had terrible safety practices (such as opening mail you aren’t expecting, the digital equivalent would be having software listening to ports) they could send you something harmful but this is probably not very likely unless you are pissing powerful people off (e.g. you’re using that IP to distribute anti mossad documentaries or something :P). Your biggest threat is that somebody finds out who you are by going to your ISP and making them give you up.

If you are confident that this is very high effort and you are a small fish it’s not much of a risk.

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Using a condom doesn’t require trusting a third party to keep you out of gaol, and has lots of regulatory industry around it guaranteeing quality.

VPN companies are not ideological projects, they are businesses bound by the laws in the countries they operate in optimising for profit. They will abuse your trust if it makes them money or frees them from criminal liability.

It’s not an issue of national pride, Australia is a dog shit nation. It’s about being funny and interesting.

Funny joke: “I was arriving at the airport and they asked if I had a criminal background, I didn’t realise that was still a requirement”.

Boring, played out, uncreative nonsense: “haha spiders upside down haha”

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah you got it. Make fun of our stupid accents, our ridiculous infighting politics, the horrible racism, how every Aussie thinks we’re some rugged larrikin but we have fines and regulations for everything (welcome to Australia: fines apply on a sticker had me in stitches in an airport bathroom), the hilarious “this place was discovered in XXXX, by an expedition being guided by a local man to a sacred place” plaques, the sex pest tourism we inflict on our neighbours whatever.

I’m just so bored of people bagging on made up stuff about the wildlife. They’re cool and interesting, and there’s loads to crack jokes about.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dendrocnide_moroides

read that page. You’re unlikely to come across it without trying. No confirmed deaths in Australia. You can find videos of people stinging themselves, it looks unpleasant but not that bad. Not even exclusive to Australia.

“Bad things can happen to you if you deep into the forest/jungle and don’t know what you’re doing” is hardly uniquely Australian.

Fair fair. You’ll want to avoid bulldog ants if you’ve got allergies. I know the natural inclination is to get close because they’re so fascinating but they’re particularly known for provoking anaphylaxis :(

naevaTheRat,
@naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I wasn’t joking about wanting to approach them, they’re fascinating. I object to people saying something is less evolved than something else as everything has been evolving and surviving the same amount of time, but they are primitive in the sense of preserving characteristics from an intermediate stage between wasps and ants. Really fascinating to see the solitary roaming/eyesight heavy foraging behaviours alongside eusocial grooming etc.

Gosh I love them, but I don’t know how many stings I have left in me as it’s starting to get extremely painful :p. They are just about the only animal aside from domestic cats that seem to go out of their way to do violence to you with very little provocation.

naevaTheRat,

I get loving cheese but why is it ok to hurt cows for cheese just because you love it? You already recognise that this argument doesn’t hold up for meat, the dairy industry also kills, hurts, confines etc cows :(

As evidenced by this article, you can enjoy great plant based cheeses. They’re not weird frankenfoods, they’re properly fermented. you can even make your own :)
