@bjhess My wife got on the Wolves bandwagon last year. We were stoked that they knocked off the Nuggets, and were excited about the prospect of a house divided finals (I’m a Celtics fan).
A BHAG that just popped into my head: get involved enough with #iOS#swiftui development that I am upset when I don’t get a #WWDC invitation (or elated when I do!)
I replaced my Mac Studio with a MacBook Pro over a year ago, but I still sometimes come out to my studio, sit down, and tap the spacebar, just to realized my laptop is sitting on a table in the house. It breaks my brain every time.
@ismh86 Also, curious: do you find that being more mobile lends to doing Stuff on the MBP when you're away from your desk?
I've got a new iPad, and am trying to make that the focal point of my away-from-the-office usage. Work provides me w/ a MBP. I've been contemplating a Mini or Studio to go on the desk, and tucking the MBP into the server rack downstairs/accessing remotely for what I need.
@kyle@starling id want to be on my own setup as the default, mostly so it plays nice at all times with my monitors, and any work changes would be a process shift vs a setup change.
just realized i've had the mollywhite.net domain for over 10 years(!!)
related sneak peek into an upcoming piece: i firmly believe that if you're going to spend money on one thing online it should be a domain, particularly as online identity gets more fragmented. as platforms come and go, you can always find me there.
Context: Yesterday, @macrumors had a story where employees were discussing whether Apple would ever change the orientation of the Apple logo to reflect the iPad being used more and more in landscape orientation.
Really tempted to give @eleventy a shot, but I've not actually looked at hosting stuff in ages (thanks, GitHub Pages). Any recs for good, affordable hosting platforms for a small site like mine?
@tbroyer I'm looking to move away from this as a blogging platform; it works great, but being able to publish on the go proved difficult. Just exploring some other opportunities.
I guess I should've been more clear: I realize 11ty can be self-hosted via GHP like Jekyll is now. My issue is that it becomes difficult to publish stuff when I'm on the go; I ended up having to delete the GH app off my phone & create files in the web client when I was on vacation at the beginning of the month.
GHP is great for what it is/does. It just doesn't have a great blogging workflow (and why would it? That's not why it was designed.)
i blogged about mysql's json functions for all the people who think putting large blobs of schemaless data into their relational databases is a good idea.
@ghorwood@grmpyprogrammer Literally doing this at the jobby job for an internal solution - it's been Not Pleasant™, but we've gotten there. Appreciate all of these tips!
I'd been writing a post for #weblogpomo2024 talking about some of the more comical fuck-ups all of these #ai and #llm have been spewing. And now I'm fucking furious.

@alexcox I have Copilot installed & use it to generate code from time to time.
When I'm needing to assign a dozen variables? It's nice!
When I want it to write a big block of code for me? It takes 5 times as long! (Because I have to figure out how best to craft my query, then delete and try again, then audit the code it generates to make sure it's right... zzzzzzzzz)
It just annoys me that big orgs shove bad models into our lives without our consent w/ a "fix it in post" mindset.
@alexcox At its core, if I ignore the ethical issue of how the models are made/generated, the biggest issue is that we as consumers are the guinea pig for orgs enhancing their work. We're literally QAing an alpha product. All the memes being shared eventually make their way back for "enhancement”, vs. a bug fix.
It's like when I realized Captchas are just us training self-driving car algorithms. Just makes me feel real ick.
