We have just launched some new ways for the community to help aid development; Submitting network dumps!

Network dumps are one of, if not the, best way to help development of projects like this. They allow developers to see how the servers/clients "talk" during normal operation, which can greatly speed up development on our end. It is not impossible to support games without network dumps, but it makes our jobs orders of magnitude easier when we have reference material.

Starting today we have deployed a way for the community to help us by crowd sourcing network dumps for games before Nintendo Network shuts down in a few months!

For a detailed guide on how to setup your computer and console to capture network traffic, the steps on how to submit them, etc, please see our brand new guide on our website! This page also has a list of high priority games we are looking to get dumps for, for anyone who owns them and is interested in helping the cause! https://pretendo.network/docs/network-dumps

To submit network dumps to us, simply post them to any channel in our Discord server. Our Discord bot, Bandwidth, has been updated to detect these dumps, and will download them from your message, and reupload them privately for a subset of developers to access. Due to security concerns, your original message is then deleted. Additionally, less than 10 people have access to where the dumps are uploaded. Alternatively, if you have concerns regarding uploading dumps to the server you may contact a relevant developer privately. Anyone with the "Shares Dumps" role can be contacted, though Billy (💜) is likely the best as he mostly heads our packet capturing operations.

Heya peeps on discuss.smash.today, is there a better way to filter to smash content? It's hard to see the smash content unless I go to the tags. Local timeline helps a little bit, but it won't include smash content on other instances

@Shanoa @Hyper discuss.smash.today is on the same version as retro.pizza, 4.1.4, and I can follow hashtags just fine. In the web interface I just search the hashtag, and then in the top right there's a + icon to follow it.

If you're using an app, many apps don't have all the features. But if you log in from a browser, the web interface should have everything.

It's possible this is some sort of server option or something and d.s.t has it turned off, but I'd message your admin if you're stuck.

@splatoon @splatoon I'm interested in playing competitively on a team (because that seems like a fun team experience, not because I'm good), but I don't use Discord so there's basically been zero chance for that. But maybe there are people here!

Anyone interested in trying some competitive team play this weekend? I don't really care if you're "good", just be willing to push yourself and have fun. If there are people, I'll stream some this weekend and tag you in my post.

Quick thought:

As we're getting a bunch of new folks both here on retro.pizza and in the Fediverse as a whole, I'm considering removing limits on some of the big mainstream servers to make it easy for new people to find each other. My only concern is that more people in the Fediverse as a whole might mean those servers are likely seeing higher levels of, frankly, Reply Guy assholes. Thoughts? Lower the limits and see how it goes or just play it safe?

@trixter Specifically on the topic of Reply Guy assholes, I'd rather not block preemptively for something like that. Just remind others here to report terrible behavior so you can tell if something really does need to be blocked. (...That's how reporting works, right? I haven't looked into it.)

@gedeonm I used multiple accounts to have more than one save, and sadly the Switch doesn't track usage unless you've linked a Nintendo account. But my first account has 290 hours.
