Amsterdam, zu spät für eine Lüge.

Pražský Semmering, here I come. I have tried to take a train on this line before (in 2005 or something like that) but did not manage to find it, as it used to depart from some far away platform on Praha-Smíchov. Also, there used to be less trains. Now it is easier to find and there are trains almost hourly. Am the only passenger so far.

@tml A bit of shunting to get to or from the platform seems to be a common thing in Czechia.

Nanu? Hast du dich etwa verfahren? 🤔

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

@Zuggucker Ja.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

“ICE International is a very good collaboration between NS and DB”. Might be, but for travel information it is not :blobcatthisisfine:

ICE 255 to Basel SBB in the DB app. The train is showing on time, but there is a disruption showing.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

@smveerman I find it quite baffling that DB has real time data for the Netherlands but it is often wrong. Where do they get the data from?

The age old question: why are you letting us depart at Dordrecht when at the next signal we have to wait for a cargo train :omya_hp0:

They have a handy map of where I’m going tomorrow 🙂

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

@jon How is the quality of public transport in Tallinn – density, frequency, speed? There’s an interesting lesson here that making it free doesn’t seem to do much. If it is also pretty good, then the lesson becomes even more interesting.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

@jon Right. So this is confirmation that making it free can’t replace making it good. Which, I suppose, isn’t news but it’s still good to have a real world example.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

In supermarkets you can donate your bottle returns to a charity. Maybe NS could set up a similar scheme for delay compensation?

I think I am in the market for a new hiking rain jacket. After a very intensive 16 months my current 90 euro MH500 rain jacket from Quechua/Decathlon is reaching it’s end of life, even with proper maintenance during it’s life span. But I’m wondering if a rain jacket from a well known brand that is more expensive might also be even better? I think The North Face is largely overrated, but maybe Patagonia or something like that? What are your experiences with rain jackets?

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

@smveerman I can certainly advise to avoid North Face. The zipper gets stuck all the time, there is no way to pull the hood tight, and it recently ripped just from lifting my arms slightly awkwardly.

So far, SAS sent me nine emails for a single one-way trip. Two of them were useful, one more – the ticket – should have been part of the booking confirmation, one more that would have been useful – the boarding passes – I had to ask for. The rest was completely meaningless. I’m expecting two more Please Rate Us reminders in the coming weeks. I did not agree to any extended communication.

@samcage Honestly, I thought the actual service was better than it used to be.

I could fly to Dublin in less than two hours (net). I could do the trip with fast trains and boats in a day.

Or I can stick to slow trains and take three days.

Either way, the journey starts here. And now.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

In Osnabrück, I could have made the 35 minutes late Intercity to Amsterdam. But one of the two first class carriages was locked, so Eurobahn it is.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

I went the wrong way! There’s a little pub on Osnabrück Hbf’s platform 11/12.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

Wasn’t there a website that recommended pubs on or near stations?

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

Final transfer of the trip. It is about as wet as it was this morning.

And I suppose that’s it. Thank you all for following my silly adventures. Let’s see what happens next!
