Arriva launched the page for the Drielandentrein. And well, we really got the most shitty version of the OV-chipkaart here :blobcatbadumtss:

For now there will be NO support for the @OV in Belgium, against what was promised before. You need to have an international ticket between Eijsden and Visé.

But it gets worse: If you travel with a DIRECT train from Eijsden to Valkenburg with an OV-chipkaart, you check in at Eijsden at the NS pole, then leave the train in Maastricht, check out at the NS pole, check in at the Arriva pole, board the train again and check out in Valkenburg at the Arriva pole. This is only applicable for Eijsden, all other Dutch and German stations for the Drielandentrein do have Arriva OV-chipkaart poles.

Sometimes your cross your life with persons you don’t know. Last Friday I missed my metro by a hair, noticed a person on the platform not feeling well and called an ambulance and provided some assistance. Today :ret_rotterdam: customer care sent me some beautiful flowers 😊

Most of all I hope the person I helped is doing well again 🤞

Ah great

SNCF stops selling most international rail tickets
https://jonworth.eu/sncf-is-stopping-sales-of-most-international-tickets-a-decision-rooted-in-incompetence-and-communicated-with-malevolence/

Who does the Bundestag invite to talk about a golden era of international rail? Alain Krakovitch, boss of SNCF Voyageurs - responsible for this ticket mess 😡

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@jon So, now that we know Résarail stopping is the problem, and building a new system will take at least a year. Why don’t they call Benerail? They speak French, already work with SNCB, CFL, DSB and NS. Yeah, it is not French, but the best damn thing and can probably be launched in a couple of weeks 🤷‍♀️

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@jon @partim That probably is their main reason, I only knew them from EUrail recommendations floating on the internet before.

This suggestion by DB isn’t just overly optimistic, it is borderline insane. Walking in three minutes from a “b” to an “a” platform through the tunnels when everyone on the arriving train has to change and clogs the stairs? Good luck with that.

(I sent in a report, let’s see if they will fix it.)

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@partim @wrzlbrnft Same platform same phase is 2 minutes (from 10b to 11b), same platform different phase (for example from 13b to 14a) or to the next platform (from 10b to 14a) is 3 minutes, each additional intermediate platform is an extra minute.

From 10/11 to 15 is thus at least 4 minutes.

I could fly to Dublin in less than two hours (net). I could do the trip with fast trains and boats in a day.

Or I can stick to slow trains and take three days.

Either way, the journey starts here. And now.

smveerman,

@partim Last vehicle goes to Lille, other vehicles to Poperinge. Except when the number of the last vehicle starts with a 5.

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@jon @partim I’ve noticed those VR2N mostly on ‘fast’ services from Lille to Calais or Maubeuge. I am wondering why they still are in service, with the deliveries of the new OMNEO Premium trains for Paris bound services, it was assumed that the V2N carriages previously used on those services would replace them. And yeah, I’ve also noticed some strange choices in the train composition choices in HdF.

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@partim @jon The V2N is a lot more comfortable, with 2+2 instead of 2+3 seating.

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@partim Tram, take 3. The second one was a failed TVR.

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@partim Huh? The Normandy Régio 2N have perfectly aligned seats with the windows, in contrast with the regional models found almost everywhere :blobcatthinkingglare:

@partim I didn’t even know these train have first class :blobcatthinkingglare: Most regions abolished it.

SNCF Connect “Train Full”

The train… not even half full 🤦‍♂️

And ok, there are stops between Paris and Nuits-sous-Ravières but normally more get off than get on at Sens, Joigny etc.

And yes I just booked on a later one and took the 13:35 earlier one

Empty seats
Even more empty seats
And yet more empty seats

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@jon They don’t stop the ticket sales at the horrendous regional ticket machines. And when trains between Auxerre and Paris are full, why don’t they run them with two multiple units then 🤦‍♀️

NS and ProRail are collectively fined € 3,25 million by the Dutch government for underperformance in 2023. Most of the fine is to be paid by ProRail, € 2,75 million. Most of the fine is coming from the high speed line underperforming, where a 80 km/h speed restriction is in place because of a problematic viaduct. The fine is to be returned towards the passengers. With the fine for 2022 social interactions and dating facilities between train passengers have to be improved.

One of the most iconic emblems of the Dutch railway network is soon to be extinct. During electrification of the railways of Noord-Brabant in the 1950’s, concrete overhead wire portals were used. Now 70 years later, they have reached end of life and are due for replacement. The portals used in Noord-Brabant are quite elegant, because they have a lightly curved top bar. ProRail already started the replacement, which is planned to take a couple of more years.

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@partim Those are a “rijksmonument” and thus protected. The concrete portals on lines going north or east of Amersfoort build in the 1940’s are also in danger, but there in most cases the top bar already is replaced with a steel one because the straight concrete bar was very prone to cracks. That’s also the reason they are curved in Brabant.

Probably worst trains in the Netherlands: Arriva GTW on the line Nijmegen - Venlo - Roermond. With their 3+2 seats.

Three seats forming a long bench.
