@kupfers Irgendwann soll ja der ominöse Nachtzug Kars - Tbilisi - Baku kommen. Nur wann, weiß eben niemand.

Sonst dürfte im Moment Bus von/nach Türkei das Mittel der Wahl sein, wer nicht den Flieger nehmen will.
Frachtfähren mit Passagierbeförderung ab Bulgarien gibt es offenbar auch, da habe ich aber keine Ahnung über die Bedingungen.

@jon Just re-saw your 2021 blogpost. During my researches within the last days I can say that, despite they're don't seem any direct Russia to China trains, cross-border trains Russia <> Mongolia <> China as well Kazakhstan <> China have been re-introduced in the meantime.

@jon Theoretically one could start it's journey at Kaliningrad by going to Moskva, only having a railway gap between Braniewo and Kaliningrad. But yes, the ethical point of view is my struggle too. @patrick @kupfers

Okay. Irgendwie habe ich nun mindestens einen theoretischen Überblick, auf welchen irgendwannigen Wegen ich mal (nicht heuer, sicher auch noch nicht 2025 und mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit in mehreren Etappen) mir den Landweg nach China (und v.a. weiter) "erkämpfen" könnte.

1x in einer Russland-auslassenden (dafür Iran-beinhaltenden) als auch einer schnelleren Russland-so-rasch-wie-möglich-nach-Kasachstan-durchquerenden Variante.

@partim Habe davon auch nie mehr etwas gehört. Ich weiß, dass derzeit an der Wiederbelebung des Zugverkehrs Richtung Iran gearbeitet wird, von anderen Projekten habe ich nichts mehr gehört.

CH 610: Zwischen Brig und Bitsch führte die Strecke früher via Naters.

AT 357: Zwischen Niedernsill - Krimml wegen Unwetterschäden derzeit kein Zugverkehr, ab Juni 2024 Sperre voraussichtlich nur noch zwischen Mittersill - Krimml (bis vsl. Sommer 2025)

This suggestion by DB isn’t just overly optimistic, it is borderline insane. Walking in three minutes from a “b” to an “a” platform through the tunnels when everyone on the arriving train has to change and clogs the stairs? Good luck with that.

(I sent in a report, let’s see if they will fix it.)

I could fly to Dublin in less than two hours (net). I could do the trip with fast trains and boats in a day.

Or I can stick to slow trains and take three days.

@smveerman @partim I confirm this in 1st class. It was that bad, when I took one of these 3 weeks ago on my way to Caen, I had to change to 2nd class before getting crazy…

Charakteristisch für so manche Orte in Ungarn. Der Busbahnhof liegt zentraler und lädt deutlich eher zum Verweilen ein als der Bahnhof. So auch in Mohács.

✅ Signs telling me what seats are reserved
✅ Luggage racks designed to actually be useable
✅ 13 carriage train that needs a dwell time of just 1 minute in major stations
✅ Staff providing useful information about connecting services
✅ No superfluous announcements about forgetting luggage or minding the doors
✅ Freight trains too!

Thinking further about the SNCF ticket office employee in Strasbourg telling me SNCF ticket offices & SNCF Connect no longer being able to sell me tickets to Germany is Deutsche Bahn's fault (it isn't - it's 100% SNCF)…

The employee answered with full confidence. She's been asked this before. The line that it was DB's fault had been used many times

So is it either staff have been told to blame DB? Or they’ve been told nothing, and so make this up to save face?

@jon It just might be an internal note to all SNCF ticket office employees and there you have it… everyone's going to tell this fake story at costumers.

At German stations I'm still told that it's SNCF's fault they couldn't issue TGV tickets within France anymore. Don't know how much this is true. I assume SNCF demands horrendous fees to access their sales system and DB isn't willing to pay for this.

The train is here. I got on. A guy with a bike got on. He asked me a question, we talked

Driver comes out of the cab, scowls at me, and says “Pause!”

I’m only sat here in your effing train so early because your timetables are crap. Shame on me for disturbing your peace by helping a fellow passsnger

The driver is SWEG though, so probably not allowed to use a SNCF staff waiting room

@jon @simonschre I also can't see any other reason why it shouldn't run. The replacement buses in the evening are clearly shown as buses with significant longer journey times. So I'm very sure there must be an error in SWEG's timetable data.

@jon I assume both buses will wait for each other at Kehl. But I don't see any reason why they can't run through. It isn't a problem between Müllheim and Mulhouse where TER buses from French operator Kunegel are running on both sides of the border. More annoying, they don't wait for the last TGV from Paris (arrival at 22:25, departure also at 22:25) and are too late in Offenburg the last ICE to Freiburg and Basel. Normally a connection that would work without any problems. @partim @guenther

@K1ngdaKa88 Wobei ich sagen muss, dass unser Fahrplanalgorithmus zwar besser ist, wenn es darum geht, mögliche Reisealternativen darzustellen, ansonsten finde ich aber den Informationsgehalt bei unseren nördlichen Nachbarn mittlerweile oft wesentlich besser als bei uns. Insbesondere bei geplanten Ereignissen (Baustellen, Events, usw.).

Wir haben dank gestern im nun eine ähnliche Situation wie in Österreich anno 2014 mit Conchita Wurst.

Die Schweiz kann sich der Welt nun als superoffenes, wahnsinnig liberales Land präsentieren, stattdessen ist die SVP nach wie vor die wählerstärkste Partei (somit ähnliche Situation wie im verschnarcht-konservativen Nachbarland im Osten) und ein amtlicher Eintrag eines Eintrags für non-binäre u.ä. ist hier, im Gegensatz zu Österreich, nach wie vor NICHT möglich.

Denkt immer daran!
