Amsterdam, zu spät für eine Lüge.

In supermarkets you can donate your bottle returns to a charity. Maybe NS could set up a similar scheme for delay compensation?

So far, SAS sent me nine emails for a single one-way trip. Two of them were useful, one more – the ticket – should have been part of the booking confirmation, one more that would have been useful – the boarding passes – I had to ask for. The rest was completely meaningless. I’m expecting two more Please Rate Us reminders in the coming weeks. I did not agree to any extended communication.

@partim A similar quality and logic to the actual service.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

@samcage Honestly, I thought the actual service was better than it used to be.

Looks like the flooding between Maastricht and Visé was quite bad, given that railway line is closed at least until tomorrow night.

If you know the railway network in a region already covered by the rather well, I’d be delighted if you would “well, actually” the hell out of it.

This suggestion by DB isn’t just overly optimistic, it is borderline insane. Walking in three minutes from a “b” to an “a” platform through the tunnels when everyone on the arriving train has to change and clogs the stairs? Good luck with that.

(I sent in a report, let’s see if they will fix it.)

@partim that's something I've wondered about - I have a feeling that they used to allow some extra time in the schedules, so that it was possible for a train to make up lost time, or even arrive early. That sometimes still happens, but it's much more common that a train that is running late only gets later. My feeling is that somebody at some stage decided to cut the extra time.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

@mspcommentary It’s possible that they have to squeeze times to accommodate the extra trains for the ten minute schedule.

I could fly to Dublin in less than two hours (net). I could do the trip with fast trains and boats in a day.

Or I can stick to slow trains and take three days.

Either way, the journey starts here. And now.

Time to call it a day in Odense, a city with yet another surprise tram.

Germany has no less than five different colour light signalling systems. In Hamburg you can still find the very first one.

Okay, today was my own fault. I forgot that the direct trains don’t operate off-peak on Friday and didn’t want to wait for half an hour in the rain.

I find it not exactly helpful that in Polish north is północ and south is południe (and I can never remember which one is which).

ondrej,
@ondrej@sury.org avatar

@partim Poł means half, and noc is night. And Dzień means day. Just remember the first letters they match the English words…

ondrej,
@ondrej@sury.org avatar

@partim Oh, and the Czech words are almost same: půlnoc and poledne… again noc and den (dne) can be seen after the variants of “half”.

You think a motorcycle in a shared tunnel is bad? Try hundreds of screaming kids. A departing jet liner is nothing compared to that noise.

Let’s hope the trains operate normally this evening. I am spending way too much time in pubs lately.

Why are batteries always specified in Ampere hours? Isn’t that a bit meaningless unless their voltage is also given?

yschaeff,

@partim Here is a 'fun' challenge. Find on the duracell website what the total energy is of their akaline AA battery. "20% better than the competition" doesn't count. It is not so much I find Ah confusing but rather the lack thereof infuriating.

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

@yschaeff For AA batteries Ah is fine – you know that they are 1.5V (-ish). I suppose I should know what voltage USB-C is using, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if that were negotiable.
