Gnome Search on a smartphone is a killer feature. You can do so much useful stuff and customize everything to your liking.
Some tips: https://itsfoss.com/gnome-search/
The two best smartphones I own. Not the fastest, most powerful, or most expensive. They are the best and most precious to me because those devices can run PostmarketOS. #gnomemobile#postmarketos#mobilelinux
@peja oh poo, doesn't support my Huawei from 2018.
Also doesn't seem to support any ArmV8 or V9 phones
Lovely that it exists; but IDK; feels like soon I might give up on having a phone. Android is and always has been a massive dissapointment, and iOS is like they said "how about we make this terrible, like our apple computers, but dial up the terrible to 11"
There seems to be nothing to be positive about with Mobile.
Terrible Hardware, Terrible software lots of kudos for very little.
Phosh is a shell that's built on mutter (Gnome's compositor), but Gnome mobile is the same thing as desktop Gnome, just patched to work on smaller touch screens. Phosh was built before the Gnome could be run on mobile devices and is currently more mature on phones. Gnome is on the other hand way more polished and has more eyes and development effort currently
@fell@peja Phosh originates from Purism who built it as a shell for the Librem phone. My understanding is that it follows designs from Tobias (GNOME designer employed by Purism) as closely as possible—but at the same time, contributors to GNOME Shell have been working closely with Tobias to build that design into the upstream GNOME Shell codebase as well.
So yeah, ultimately they’re converging on the design; I’m not sure if they’ll coexist forever or if Purism will adopt the upstream work.
I want to say thank you, to all amazing people who made possible for me to enjoy this great OS on my phone.
Thank you for your time, work and enthusiasm!
Thank you so much!
@peja fun memes, but you don't have to wait! we're delaying its implementation as the default. you can still just do dnf install dnf5 and then run dnf5 instead of dnf.
