That job is significantly less well paid than the one I interviewed for yesterday but sounds like it would be a lot of fun. Yesterday’s is still my first choice. I got seen, but told to make it brief, which annoyed me as I had arrived ten minutes before my appointment. Luckily I only needed an extension of my fit note. All done now, still raining on the walk home. Happy to be inside and I’ve just put a snuggly jumper on

GP registrar again, the one who seemed clueless last time I saw him. He’s running 25 minutes late and it’s only 9.25. Now he’s struggling to operate the keypad to get back to his room and just audibly muttered, “Shit!” after his second failed attempt. The waiting patients made amused eye contact. I sort of feel sorry for him really

I started reading a new book last night, it’s an alt history speculative novel about what might have happened if the moors had not been driven out of Spain but had “discovered” the Americas instead of Columbus’s party. It’s an intriguing idea but I’m not sure I’m into the writing style

That interview seemed to go so well… apparently my career history and my dedication to research is “fascinating and inspiring”, who knew?? But they can’t let me know the outcome for a week or so. So I will try and forget about it and prepare for my next interview, which is in person on Wednesday next week

Psychiatrist all good, he has concluded that my rapid mood shifts a few weeks ago are best explained as mixed affective state (as opposed to something “more pervasive” like personality disorder, a label I would have vigorously rejected). He told me he is leaving, he’s a locum and they’ve filled the permanent post. Yet another new doctor to get to know sigh Ooh, also he’s letting me try melatonin for sleep! No ones ever been willing to prescribe it for me, and you can’t buy it OTC in the UK

The warm fuzziness of a good sleep has worn off and I’m back to anxiety about psychiatrist appointment and the job/PhD situation. Tom is so against me interviewing for jobs, but my friends (including those working in academia) and life coach think I should keep my options wide open. So I think I’ll do the job interview this afternoon, I probably won’t get it anyway and interview experience is always useful. I’ll worry about whether to take it IF it’s offered! I can still say no thank you, right?

I didn’t realise it until I got a way in but the book I’ve started reading on Kindle is about a London couple in their early 30s who are rocked by a news event that relates to them personally. The book counts down the days to their wedding date as the bride to be has to decide whether she wants to go ahead.

The first book (The List) is about misogyny, #MeToo and dealing with anonymous internet allegations. The second (Dominoes) is about race and the legacy of slavery in modern Britain. Very different topics, but you can see why I’m having trouble keeping the two separate in my mind…! I might have to put Dominoes aside until I’ve finished my audiobook
