So despite climate change, Australia's federal government has just committed an extra $3.25 billion into building a toll road and a 20-lane freeway widening.
"Pouring an extra $3.25 billion worth of federal funds into Melbourne’s North East Link is a good use of taxpayer money, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has insisted, despite the project’s cost doubling just a few months ago.
...
"The North East Link – which includes 6½ kilometres of tunnels – will stretch from Bulleen to Greensborough. It will widen the Eastern Freeway by up to 20 lanes.
"Allan revealed in December that the 10-kilometre toll road had more than doubled in cost since it was first announced.
"The toll road was initially budgeted at $10 billion and reassessed in 2019 at $15 billion. But the government revealed last year that the updated cost estimate was $26 billion."
Dear @firefox : Please stop saving images as webp when I drag them out of the browser. Forever stop that. Even if they are webp originally, just give me a setting to auto-convert them to JPEG. When I get a webp file the first thing I have to do is convert it manually if I'm going to do anything with it.
no offense to older people in chat, but why do so many older USonians try to overuse appliances or reusable containers with worn out plastic in contact with food?
is this a worldwide issue? my hypothesis was they got introduced to them as wonder materials of the future. even plastic sponges get reused when they clearly have molecule-deep filth in every crevasse
To be fair I was teasing, I understand if their jimmies are rustled. 😌
Also I totally wash out empty plastic jars and use them as dry storage totes for all sorts of stuff (only dry no-heat storage, of course), no way am I going to buy a big 64oz jar for idk dry beans or whatever when I already have a perfectly good empty peanut butter jar!
What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?
A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.
Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.
How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?
What you need to understand is employee ownership is not worker ownership. Ownership of the company is related to the amount of employee stock that a worker owns, which means management always has the most ownership because they are given stock options that the rest of the workforce isn’t able to get or afford.
In the end it just turns managers into shareholders, with the rest of the workers disregarded in the decision making process.
Worker ownership has to be democratic. Equal shares for equal work. Otherwise it’s just a dictatorship of management masquerading as meritocracy.
