I'm Japanese. I write code and sing songs. I have a karate rank. My favorite language is php, but I've recently become good at Clang as well.

I am now the release manager (rookie) for php8.4. 8.4 is going to be the version I'm most attached to. 🎉

I learned about the Japanese alt/indie/electronic rock band バンプ・オブ・チキン because their song “Sleep Walking Orchestra” is the theme song for .

I’m enjoying their music, but can someone explain the meaning behind the name? Is something lost in translation? It literally translates to “bump of chicken.” What does that mean?

@saki, can you help? 😁

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey
They are very famous in Japan!
The band's name comes from the phrase "the counterattack of the weak" and "the coward's blow."

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey
That's an interesting coincidence!

My husband is familiar with them, and apparently, they used to play metal. I can't imagine it given their current musical style.

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey
Yes, they had a stronger rock feel in the past than they do now.

Speaking of electronic pop music, a unit called "YOASOBI" has become popular in Japan recently.

I made a rough comparison of the speed of the DI container I am developing with Laravel's DI container.

It was about 10 times faster. It took about twice as long as the normal new Class().

I'm creating a DI container extension. It's too experimental to be bundled with PHP itself, so I'm thinking of releasing it with PECL or PIE.

What kind of work does this do?

@ramsey

From what I've read in the article, I understand that when something happens to the server during the night hours in the US, new volunteers will follow up on the problem.

What I am interested about is whether there is any other work to be done even when there are no problems.

Sorry for the late reply.

I understand, based on that, it seems like someone with server knowledge would be the right fit for the job.
I thought I might be able to help out since my time zone(UTC+9) is probably pretty rare here, but if there's someone else who's more qualified, that would be better. I do have some knowledge about servers, but I probably can't compete with the experts.

Naming things is hard! What would you suggest for a name for the new PECL installer tool that is being worked on? 📢

saki,

@asgrim PEM (php extension manager)

Does "OK" not give a very good impression? Does "I got it" make a better impression?

Japanese people tend to use "OK" in a very positive way, so I may have to be careful when using it.

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@SenseException @saki I see, it seems like a subtle difference, but does it feel strange to native speakers?

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@edorian @saki I find this especially difficult in chat interactions like Slack. "sure" is good!

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @saki @edorian Indeed, it can be difficult when the same English words have different meanings...

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey @saki @edorian "sounds good" is also good.

When studying English, I often come across articles from Japanese that say "OK is not very good." So I was worried that I might be making someone uncomfortable without knowing it.

So far, no one has pointed this out to me, and I was told that it doesn't matter depending on the context, so I feel a little relieved.

Does it ever happen to any of you that you are certain something is impossible.
But you see stuff suggestion otherwise multiple times.
Making you question your own beliefs?

Because reading php-src code does this to me sometimes.

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@Girgias I don't often draw conclusions unless things are very simple and clear. I always try to stop short of a conclusion and leave a little room for other possibilities.

With my personality, I tend to lose the flexibility of my thinking when I get an "easy-to-understand answer."

So trying out my custom domain to send emails to the internals list and it falls in the spam folder in GMail, which is confusing :|

Anyway, new RFC: https://wiki.php.net/rfc/http-last-response-headers

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@Girgias I was in the same situation before. Improved by adding the mailing list distribution server IP to DNS spf.

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@Girgias Can you edit your DNS records? If possible, I will send you an example of the DNS record description via DM, so please try rewriting the spf record with it.

FYI, mailing lists and spam email are the same in that the email is sent from a server that cannot authenticate your domain.

Therefore, only the domain owner can take action. If countermeasures could be taken on the server side, it would be impossible to identify spam emails.

saki,
@saki@phpc.social avatar

@timwolla @Girgias That's certainly the case with DKIM. However, if do not edit the content, the disadvantage is that it is difficult to tell at first glance that the email is from a mailing list...
