You don't really understand how it is to live with parents that, while love you, are absolutely convinced that they are totally mentally healthy person when they are not.

You don't understand the fear. EVERY argument ends up with threats.

My mother has send me to buy food. I went and picked the food and told her how much it was. "I send it to you right now". I been waiting 1 hour. I had to leave the food and come back home.

@YoSoyFreeman I don’t know if you have the means to just go away and cut ties but it is most likely the right thing to do.

Most people in our society sacralize motherhood and only accept that you keep your distance if your parents runs a massive child trafficking network but not if they simply make you feel like dying every day.

Took me a while to understand I should have fled as a teenager and not locked myself up in a dark environment until I was 30+.

@YoSoyFreeman BTW staying or the street aren’t the only two options. If you are low on money even renting a cheap room in a place with non destructive people is a sane decision. Peace to be able to think can change your life.

@YoSoyFreeman If I could go back 25 years I’d just tell my former self to just go away.

Even working at a grocery store or whatever if not enough money comes from computing activities yet. Because that’s a bit of financial stability and a lot of mental stability (together with therapy) which can brings lots of changes later.

Maybe the only solution to solve this issue is to write my own Mastodon app with builtin limit systems. Also at least when I’ll be idling in bed doing nothing useful on this network I’ll be able to say “I am testing my app”.

So I am back to having all reposts disabled and having lists at the bottom as icons. It’s rather fast. I just really wish there was a way to group posts by hour or something like that so I don’t lose myself when I have 10 hours to see.

I reinstalled @MonaApp on my phone because it’s just better. Phanpy is great and the catch up feature is excellent but it got me hooked again and I can’t delete a website from my phone 😭 and in the end switching from lists is tedious and I probably losing even more time.

I’ll have to try other techniques to limit my mastodon usage on the phone.

Me: I have too many computers

Also me: Come on a 12” sony vaio from 2004 for the equivalent of 44$ ? This thing could run 32 bit . 1.5GHz and 1GB RAM should be enough for everybody.

clicks

The exact model PCG-V505ECP
Specs for model of this brand. This one is 1.5 GHz and has 1 GB RAM

@tealeg what was so bad ? I had a Sony laptop in the 2000s. I remember it died after a year out of warranty and the cost for repair was absurd (and at that time I was broke and still paying that laptop in installment. I swore never to get a Sony laptop again. But now for 40 bucks I can risk it. I was surprised a Sony laptop would actually survive 20 years given my experience !

@tealeg we were three friends who had bought the same Sony laptop circa 2002. Can’t remember the model. It was black and looked nice 😅 mine was the first to die but others didn’t last much. I was in Switzerland so shipping wouldn’t take so much time but I remember the cost for motherboard repair (charging port was damaged) was higher than the money paid to get a new desktop. I just paid 150 CHF for the diagnostic and let it there.

@tealeg I remember someone telling me the customer service Sony provided in Japan was the exact opposite. I can’t verify this claim but clearly the level of customer care in Europe surely alienated a lot of people.

@tealeg Well for the price I paid I know I won’t be disappointed (it has cracks and other visible damage but works). So I’ll have fun with it if it doesn’t die in shipping, which is a seriously possibility. My first reaction seeing it for sale was “holy shit a Sony laptop that is alive after 20 years, either they repaired it 20 times or maybe some series had better build quality.” Note this one is in Brazil (probably from the US market) while mine was bought when I lived in Europe.
