Speaking to CNBC the EU’s Margrethe Vestager said her office was continuing to investigate Spotify’s complaint that it is being prevented from reaching its audience. Spotify is currently the leading music streaming service in the world, while Apple Music is variously in fourth or fifth place.

Repeat after me: Spotify is not a gatekeeper. Apple is. Special rules apply to gatekeepers to stop them using their market power in one area to distort a free market in another.

This is not rocket science, and I’m at the point where I think if a journalist is getting it wrong, they’re simply propagandising for Apple, Meta, or Google.

@ianbetteridge.com@ianbetteridge.com One thing about all the coverage of Apple and the DMA: it has helped me identify commentators who really spend the time trying to understand the issues before putting finger to keyboard, and those who are just churning out the words. Trimmed a few follows and podcast subscriptions as a result!

Sometimes you should pay attention to signs and omens.

I was riding east on Oak St, I had just passed 52nd St. It’s paved, but there’s no curb, with a wide dirt siding. On the right is the National Guard base. About 50m ahead a group of people were scouring the side of the road with a metal detector.

I thought, “What kind of metal will they find here?” And in that instant, I punctured my tire on a piece of scrap metal.

Wife just got a recognition plaque for ten years at her current employer.

It was in the box when it was presented to her.

When she opened it, she found she had to assemble it herself.

There’s a typo on her name.

Nothing says “we value you as an employee” like a do-it-yourself recognition plaque with your name wrong on it.
