Finally got curious about the traffic being constantly generated on my #Postmarks instance, and added extra logging. Looks like "DataForSeoBot", "Imagesiftbot" and "Amazonbot" (probably at least 2 of these are $somethingElse masquerading as $thing since they are distinctly not behaving as documented). All ignoring instructions set in robots.txt (obviously), so I now set HTTP 403 on responses and hope they might go away... May want to be more blocking-y, but not certain how to do that in Glitch.
... and ~11 hours later, the only one still doggedly trying to extract value from my personal (but federated) bookmarks store is... "DataForSeoBot". #postmarks#spammyrobots
Set up a #Postmarks instance this weekend on glitch.com. Fairly straightforward after I read the documentation a little more closely and it finally clicked.
Looking forward to sharing links a la del.icio.us in the olden times but with a more modern fediverse spin. Also looking forward to closing dozens of partially read tabs and tab groups on my phone
I uploaded the beginnings of a browser extension for #postmarks (should be ok in Chromium-based browsers, evidently FF has an opinion on service workers vs backgrounds script right now). Unpackaged so far. https://github.com/andypiper/postmarks-ext
Oh hey, in the next release of Betula, people will be able to follow Betulæ from e.g. Mastodon. For live experimentation, Bouncepaw encourages you to follow his Betula instance: @bouncepaw
@betula@bouncepaw FWIW I'm not currently able to follow the Betula instance from #Postmarks, but that looks like another area we can collaborate to figure out! Exciting times.
Oh! One of my #BuiltWithGlitch apps got an honourable mention for “Best Fediverse app” last year (behind the fantastic @stefan and alongside another one of my favourites, @ckolderup with #postmarks) 😄
There’s a lot more we can do to make embedding Mastodon content better, and I do want to revisit and revitalise my little set of demos there. I’ll get to it!
someone once asked why/how the hell I ended up with 60k+ bookmarks and I just figured out it's because I'm not one of you weirdos with hundreds of open tabs
Tinkering with my #Postmarks instance, mostly because it was about 3 months behind the mainline code. Back up-to-date, and threw a few minor PRs upstream while I did so.
Mmm, I thought Glitch had broken! My #Postmarks@andypiper had gone down... turns out I had left LOGGING_ENABLED in prod, and run out of storage space... 😬
I had a 10 hour road trip today, so loaded up on podcasts - for the most part, they were related to the ActivityPub/Mastodon and extremely interesting. Sharing the list of episodes from my #Postmarks instance. Lots of big names in the fediverse here.
If you know of any more, please reply with your suggestions and I'll add 'em to the list.
@raindropio has an export tool for your twitter bookmarks. It creates an HTML file, which can be stored as is, or added to your favorite bookmark app like raindrop.io or postmarks.
I've currently collected over 500 Fediverse-related links in my online bookmarks collection. This includes information about #ActivityPub and related specifications, software, tutorials, commentary on the specs and processes, links to historical information about important Fediverse design decisions, and more. You can follow updates to the collection using an AP-compatible client (the code is based on a fork of the #Postmarks application). https://bookmarks.stevebate.dev/
Just published a one-month update about #Postmarks, with information about the changes that have happened in that time as well as information about both work already in progress by repo contributors and the user-facing work I consider to be highest priority! https://motd.co/2023/10/postmarks-one-month-update/
Doncs ho dono per acabat. Tinc el #Postmarks up and running. El següent és passar tots els marcadors que tinc del sistema anterior al nou i després un articulillo explicant la liada, que és el primer cop que ho faig mitjançant un fork.
Quan tingui els marcadors passats publico enllaç i conta del fedivers.
Worked for a few minutes tonight on a Docker build of @casey Postmarks app. I've got the database stored locally now so it doesn't get overwritten on each new pull, but figuring out how to deploy the /public folder locally. Right now it's just empty so there's no CSS applied and missing images. I can add them in, of course, but I'd like them to be copied over during the container creation.I'm a total noob with Docker.
Initial attempt to run #postmarks on top of Bun locally was very promising. Now to wait for @glitchdotcom to be able to host Bun apps! /cc FYI @ckolderup
@andypiper Thanks for posting about #postmarks. You peaked my interest and got it running on my home lab yesterday using Portainer. You’re right, it’s a great way to learn the basics of how ActivityPub things work. 🎉
