in like… 2009? 2010? I was deep in my First Linux Phase and I wanted a Nokia n900 so bad, but had to accept that it wasn’t meant to be
but today I installed Maemo on my pinephone and I absolutely dig it so far. It’s perfect for using with the keyboard case since it’s in landscape by default
@rolenthedeep@mwl most browsers can play videos just fine, and html indeed has its own video tag. No need for Javascript or css at all. There's plenty of options, but I miss apps for non-computers like my TV, playstation, ... they only can play the "big players"
Random thought: it would be great if I could tell the scheduler, "Hi, I'm not an important process; only wake me up when you have a bunch of processes like me and can run us all at once in a batch"
@pixelherodev afaik that's the reason but OSes removed the second from their clock. Running the clock isn't working, but updating the whole chain of software up to the UI is quite expensive, it seems
@pixelherodev people who call c++ c are very weird. I'm often in this situation at work (we use c++), when I'm talking about my hobby (which involves c, not c++)
Is there a proper chord name for a note, its third, and its eighth [ / itself one octave up]? and, any good resources that would cover this kinda thing in completely unnecessary detail?
@pixelherodev I think that's what you do with that "add" stuff, like Eadd5 or something? I'm not an Experte here, but prog rock and math rock are quite full of those
@pixelherodev@XxAlexXx you know the truth: there's no worse competition than the ancestor that's just good enough. And people (like me) know sudo, but not doas, so we're lost if it doesn't work.
Github has recently started to show me a lot of useless recommendation spam like this. Is there a way to get rid of these completely (the "show me less" button is intolerably audacious – and doesn't seem to change a thing) or should I finally move my stuff away from github? If yes, whereto?
@me_@fm_volker well, I also use the follow functionality, but not on the web. I use OctoDroid, and I get no recommendations. I rarely look at it though...
hey so here's a video of me touch-typing on MNT Pocket Reform (clicky switches version). i notice that i shouldn't type the letter "y" with the left hand, but otherwise, here you go!
@mado@julienxx imagine a thread of posts, but instead of manually navigate each post individually using a command and its previous output you can just navigate the structure and get all your data as files. Instead of looking at the whole thing from a distance and extracting a small piece of information you can just "walk into" the whole thing and change your perspective so that you only see what you want
@mado@julienxx a filesystem is not about transferring files, it's about abstracting structured data in a hierarchy. Especially on 9, which has no "real" files, basically.
@pixelherodev sure, in many aspects oleds are quite good, but they are still more or less the opposite of paperlike when it comes to lighting. You can't light OLEDs, because OLEDs are lights themselves. I want a pure reflective display like eink (and the competitors that barely exist), but those are rare and expensive, and inferior when it comes to refresh speeds and color.
@pixelherodev I've seen those reflective LCDs, but aren't they still too dark to really compare?
OLED is still emitting light, which is very un-paperlike, since you're looking straight into the light source. Also, if you prefer dark on bright (like me) it really matters.
