I’m just this guy, you know?

If you just want each physical interface on your server to participate in a single VLAN, set the corresponding switch port as an access port in the desired VLAN, and then configure each server interface as a normal untagged interface.

You would only do tagged frames (802.1q trunking) if you wanted to support several VLANs on the switch port.

Best Buy Membership "discount" (lemmy.world)

So I was shopping with my wife today and I said “oh let’s see if my membership helps out.” So we went and added the same item to each of our carts, and to our surprise, the total was the same! So what is it exactly that I’m paying for in this membership if the items “original price” is higher for me than it is for...

TIL people still shop at Best Buy.

If you want to get fleeced but still be respected the next morning, shop Monoprice or NewEgg.

Jeez. Best Buy? Just shop like you deserve to be treated like a carpet.

Wrong question.

Is NewEgg any worse? Too close to call.

Trump's plans for health care and reproductive rights if he returns to White House (www.pbs.org)

This week on the campaign trail, Donald Trump suggested he was open to restricting birth control or allowing states to do so. He later walked it back on Truth Social, saying he will “never advocate imposing restrictions on birth control.” President Biden and Trump are proposing vastly different visions for reproductive...

Soooo… which is it? Answer: whichever gets more votes.

This is the reductio ad absurdum of the “both sides” argument. At least, it is for those keeping notes.

@solidgrue@lemmy.world avatar

That’s bad. Don’t do that. Major repairs are really expensive.

Also, this reeks of propaganda. You can’t have a mortgage without also carrying insurance for at least the value of the principal. The mortgage terms on the note tend to stipulate how much coverage and what riders you must carry until the loan is paid. One does not simply, “not have insurance.”

I’m happy for you that you’re paid off. I refinanced, or I’d be nearly paid off by now myself. Ugh.

You probably also understand you’re in a far minority among homeowners, and therefore my comments regarding lien holders and notes don’t apply to you.

Sorry about your hail damage. Um, the climatology around all that isn’t going to get better any time soon. Consider upgrades to ensure your investment against even more inclement weather down the road.

Hey, do you need a new GIF? Seems relevant tonight.

Sad trombone is always a favorite.

I love the ambiguity in this GIF. It’s both judgy, and still castigates both sides of an argument for being stupid. Its coming into vogue.

It’s also not mine. Lol.

It’s the basis of Terry Pratchett’s Going Postal novel, a biting send-up of modern corporate kleptocracy.

Also a BBC miniseries.

You can do both.

I own some domains. I also have an ISP uplink with a dynamic IP.

I host the DNS for one of my domains (it’s basically parked) at my registrar and use their API to update an A record in my domain with my current IP addess so I can connect Wireguard, OpenVPN and/or SSH/mosh at will.

You don’t need DDNS specifically, just a router that makes the API call, or a little curl + cron savvy on an internal server

To answer your question; You’re not going to delegate your NS records to your dynamic IP because that would be a disaster. Rather, you use the DNS device at your registrar and configure a DDNS client on your router to update the server at the registrar.

OR… use dhcp-exit-hooks on your router to update DDNS at the registrar on BIND and REBIND events.

ORRRR… use crontab and curl to do a periodic query/update via the registrar’s API for your current IP address. (Your registrar will have sample scripts to use.)

This is one of those fun “roll your own” solution spaces they leave as an exercise for the reader.

As far as usability and security? I like using that hostname my dynamic IP gets for call-home services. Its obscure, which helps, and also I don’t like to rely on 3rd party when I don’t have to. I’m incurring my own risk doing so, but neither am I exposing anything to evil Sysadmins

There’s a whole order of Jesuits who are basically the Pope’s scientists, and who curated the ancient knowledge through the Dark and Middle Ages.

In fact, the current Pope is a Jesuit.

The American Bible Belt are Evangelical Baptists, and an odd offshoot of Presbyterian. They’re… special. I know them to be reactive, xenophobic and downright ornery.

They are also absolutely, rabidly devout.

Not so with me. This is my list of open ports, as reported by a Termux session with root access. I happen to know the open ports are bound by AdAway.

~# netstat -tanu | grep LISTEN
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:443 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
~#

Most likely, you’re seeing ports opened by an app. Most Android apps don’t have access to /proc/net to view port bindings, but if you have root and termux, you can use lsof -i :<portnum> to see what process is bound to that port.

You’d need to install lsof from repos first.

Egypt changed terms of Gaza ceasefire deal presented to Hamas, surprising negotiators, sources say (www.cnn.com)

Egyptian intelligence quietly changed the terms of a ceasefire proposal that Israel had already signed off on earlier this month, ultimately scuttling a deal that could have released Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and set a pathway to temporarily end the fighting in Gaza, according to three people familiar with the...

solidgrue,
@solidgrue@lemmy.world avatar

The three sources familiar with the matter told CNN that a senior Egyptian intelligence official named Ahmed Abdel Khalek was responsible for making the changes. Abdel Khalek is a senior deputy to the Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel, who has been Burns’ counterpart in leading Egypt’s mediation in the ceasefire talks.

One source familiar with the negotiations said Abdel Khalek told the Israelis one thing and Hamas another. More of Hamas’ demands were inserted into the original framework that Israel had tacitly agreed to in order to secure Hamas’ approval, the source said. But the other mediators were not informed; nor, critically, were the Israelis.

Oops?
